The 4th of July is a federal holiday. Many people get the day off of work. While most will choose to spend the day celebrating with family and friends, others may view it as an optimal time to handle some errands, including making a trip to the post office. However, since it’s a federal holiday, you may be wondering, “Is the post office open on the 4th of July 2022?” If so, here’s everything you need to know.
Is the Post Office Open on the 4th of July 2022?
Now, the post office is not open on the 4th of July. As a government agency, the United States Postal Service (USPS) follows the federal holiday schedule. Since Independence Day is a federal holiday, the post office closes.
Along with no mail pickups or deliveries on the 4th of July, there won’t be any customer service employees available on Independence Day. While you can check post office boxes in unsecured sections of the building, take advantage of postage kiosks, and drop outgoing mail off in drop boxes or mailboxes, there’s no counter service.
Additionally, any dropped off items won’t be officially processed until the next business day, which is Tuesday, July 5, 2022. If that may cause issues, you might want to head to the post office on Friday, July 1, or Saturday, July 2, to make sure your items are received and processed on time.
Post Office Normal Business Hours
Generally, post offices use a similar schedule. It’s normal for them to open at some point between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, Monday through Friday, and close between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on those days.
For those with Saturday hours, they’ll usually open at some time in the 8:00 am to 10:00 am range and close around 2:00 pm or 3:00 pm. Since there’s some variance, it’s best to check with your nearest post office to confirm when they’re open.
