Many people are moving to new states. After all, the pandemic has changed the landscape in so many ways. Cost of living has changed. What we want from our houses has changed. The nature we desire around us has shifted. If you’re considering a move, though, then you have to think about job opportunities. After all, even if you can work remotely now, you might not always have that option. As a lot of people make moves to Arizona, it’s important to find out about the best paying jobs in Arizona.
Medical Professionals Have The 9 Best Paying Jobs in Arizona
Anytime that you look at a state’s highest paying jobs, medical professionals usually rank in the top ten. However, in some states, you’ll find a mixture of other jobs in there as well. For example, sometimes tech jobs and CEO level work are also ranked as high as some doctor positions. That said, doctors, dentists, and psychiatrists are the big winners in Arizona. They hold the top nine spots for the best paying jobs in the state, according to a Zippia review of BLS statistics.
Specifically, anesthesiologists hold the number one position. Then come surgeons, psychiatrists, and a variety of types of physicians. General dentists come in at #7 and all other dental specialties at #9.
What The Best Paying Jobs in Arizona Pay
In terms of what these people earn, anesthesiologists have an entry level salary of $170,240. Their annual average salary is $285,470. Notably, there are fewer than 1000 people who hold this position in the state. Therefore, it’s obviously very difficult to get into this high-paying occupation here.
Of the top nine jobs, the one with the most number of employees is physicians and ophthalmologists. There are over 8000 of them. This job ranks as 4th highest-paying in the state. Note that there are some exceptions to the people included in this job title. For example, family medicine and general internal medicine physicians, although in the top 9, aren’t included in this specific category. Similarly, pediatric ophthalmologists are in a category of their own. The people in this category have a starting salary of $121,480 and an average annual salary of $240,750.
What’s the 10th Highest Paying Job in Arizona?
Chief executive is the only job in the top ten that isn’t a medical job. It comes in right at number ten. There are over 3000 chief executives in Arizona. They have a starting salary of just $67,640. However, they have an average annual salary of $178,890.
Lots of Six Figure Job Opportunities in Arizona
I’m originally from Tucson, Arizona. Now that I live in San Francisco, I consider Tucson to be extremely affordable. In particular, buying a house there seems cheap to me. Of course, compared to San Francisco, buying a house anywhere is cheap. The cost of living in Arizona is actually about average for the country. This means that you can generally live comfortably there on a six figure income. I was surprised to see that there are quite a lot of high paying jobs in Arizona that pass that six figure mark for annual average salary.
What Are Some of the Six Figure Jobs in Arizona?
Of the 100 jobs on the list, including the ten mentioned above, 60 of them are six figure jobs! There are more medical professionals on the list, of course. And you won’t be surprised to know that lawyers are up there. Some examples of the other six figure salary jobs include:
- Airline pilots
- Various managers including financial managers and purchasing managers
- Engineers
- Astronomers
- Actuaries
- First-line supervisors of police and detectives
- Biochemists
- Various post-secondary educators
In other words, educated people with diverse interests can get high-paying jobs in Arizona.
Best-Paying Jobs Without a College Degree
So what if you don’t have higher education? It’s expensive to go to college. Moreover, it’s not the right path for everyone. How much can you earn in Arizona without going to college?
According to Tucson.com, the highest-paying jobs that don’t required a college degree (although they may require certification) range from Financial Sales Service Agents, who can earn a six figure income with just a high school diploma, to mail carriers who earn a little over $50,000 per year.
There are several post office jobs listed in that top 50. My mom worked at, and retired from, the Tucson post office. With overtime and holiday pay, you can earn a decent living working there. Do note that this list, although it comes from Tucson.com, isn’t specific to Arizona. If you’re looking for a no-education job, do your research.
How Does Arizona Stack Up Against Other State Salaries?
ZipRecruiter reports that Arizona ranks slightly lower than other stages for average annual salaries. The state’s average annual salary is a six figure salary, just over $103,000 per year. If you work an average number of hours per week, that’s about $50 per hour.
They report that the best paying jobs in Arizona (those in the 90th percentile of earnings) pay about $178,000 per year. Other high-paying jobs in the state have a wide variation. Other high-paying jobs in the state, looking at the full 75th percentile, pay an average of almost $140,000 per year. This is in line with the reports above showing that the sixty top-paying jobs in the state are all six figure salary jobs.
According to ZipRecruiter, Arizona ranks number 36 for the highest job salaries in the country. Therefore, 14 other states pay higher. However, remember that many of those states may also have a higher cost of living. That’s always something to take into consideration when considering a move for a job.
Best Cities for Getting a Job in Arizona
ZipRecruiter reports that although Phoenix is the state’s capital, Tucson might be the best place to get a high-paying job. The city appears to be hiring more than its larger counterpart in 2021. They currently pay the highest average salary in the state: $121,467. That said, Phoenix and its suburbs are also in the top ten of best paying jobs in Arizona. There are also a few smaller cities on the list, such as Gilbert, Arizona. Therefore you might want to weigh activities, cost of living, and quality of life along with job salary if you’re moving to Arizona for a job.
