Every year, Presidents’ Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. During this time, businesses tend to hold big sales, especially since most of us have financially recovered from the holidays by now. So, if you are in need of some retail therapy, you can expect the following discounts at some of your favorite stores:
Deals and Freebies on Presidents’ Day
Need to update your mattress? How about a new techy gadget? Or maybe you just need to update your wardrobe? If you answered yes to any of these thus far, these discounts may be for you.

Retail Deals:
- Amazon: Amazon will feature a 20% off sale Monday for clothing, jewelry, and shoes.
- Macy’s: Macy’s typically always goes all-out on deals and freebies on Presidents’ Day, and this year is no different. Their sales actually began Wednesday, February 15 and end Monday night. Their sales include:
- Free shipping online with a minimum of $49 purchase in the U.S. only. (Free shipping excludes furniture and mattresses)
- An extra 25% off clearance (with exclusions, of course)
- Receive $10 off denim for the entire family
- And more than 50,000 limited time discounts available for the holiday
- JCPenny: Online and in-store sales will be available through Monday. Shoppers can enjoy deals like $10 off when they spend $25 (online code for this is BIGDEAL7), and two online-only sales of 25% off for purchases under $100 and an extra 30% off on purchases $100 or more using the code 4GOSHOP. Plus, the retailer is offering an extra 15% off select furniture, mattresses, and custom blinds.
- Finish Line: In addition to 20% off select apparel and footwear styles, now is your chance to snag a North Face Kilowatt Thermoball jacket from Finish Line for just $94.99 (originally $160). Other North Face jacket styles will be on sale as well.
- Nordstrom Rack: Speaking of North Face, Nordstrom Rack discounted their North Face gear up to 65% for men, women, and children. Not to mention, you can save up to 40% now through February 26 on various clothing and home items.
- TJ Maxx: Although their Presidents’ Day sale is not listed on their site, you can get a variety of coupon deals from RetailMeNot.com for discounts on denim, dresses, shipping, home decor and more.
- American Eagle: American Eagle discounted their collection for an online-only based sale now through Monday. Expect $30 off your purchase of $125 or more, $20 off a purchase of $100, and $10 off a purchase of $50 or more. Use the code MOREWKND at checkout.
Home Good Items:
- Macy’s: Furniture, rug, and mattress sale is extended to March 5. The website notes that this is subject to credit approval, and the free shipping special does not apply to these big ticket items.
- Kmart: Along with sales on clothing and shoes, Kmart is offering reduced pricing in a variety of household items such as dining room tables, bed sets, and washer and dryers. Exercise equipment is also part of their Presidents’ Day sale. Mattresses will also be up to 60% off.
- Home Depot: Not only can you save up to 35% on featured appliances, but Home Depot has a special buy of the day on miscellaneous items. In addition, you can save up to 40% on lighting, up to 20% on bath vanities, 30% off outdoor lighting, and more. If you are looking to do some home improvements for the spring, now is the time to grab some discounts for your home projects.
- Sears: Kitchen appliances are up to 40% off for Presidents’ Day, and consumers will even have the opportunity to save up to $500 on a new kitchen remodel. Sears also put their mattresses on sale, of course, at up to 60% off for top brands.
- Kohl’s: Kohl’s jumped on the mattress sale bandwagon with up to 60% off top brands as well. And, if you have a Kohl’s charge card, you can take an extra 30, 20, or 15% off. Limitations do apply. Another great deal from Kohl’s for the home is up to 60% off furniture.
- West Elm: The furniture chain kept it simple with a site-wide 20% off sale for Presidents’ Day using the code SAVE20 at checkout. This sale is available in-store too.
- Target: Target’s Presidents’ Day sale includes up to 30% off furniture, patio, and other home items, plus an additional 10% off with the promotional code PRESIDENT at checkout. See their website for details and exclusions.
Technology Sales:
- Dell: You’ll be able to take advantage of Dell’s President Day discounts with up to 50% off savings on select items. Doorbusters will also be available both online and in-store.
- Best Buy: Best Buy kicked off its holiday sales over the weekend, officially Friday at midnight. One of their top deals is a savings of up to $150 on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus when you buy and activate one of these phones with a monthly installment plan. They are also featuring dozens of other deals on multiple technology devices such as computers, televisions and other smart phones.
- Walmart: Save on tablet computers at Walmart in honor of Washington’s birthday. You can save money on new televisions as well. For instance, the VIZIO Smart-Case E-series 70″ TV is on sale for $998, a savings of $201.99.
