  • Marriott Bonvoy Visa

I've often posted about our main credit card, the Marriott Visa. As a family that travels a lot (at least pre-Covid), we love this card. It earns Marriott reward points every month that can be used for free stays at hotels around the world. It got even better when Marriott acquired Sheraton brands a couple of years ago. The reward points earned with the card combine with those earned by staying at their hotels. There are a bunch of other benefits.

Earn 3 Free Night Awards with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card or 1 Free Night Award with the Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ Credit Card. I can be rewarded too if you apply here and are approved for a card. Learn all about it here:
Explore different credit card options from Chase. Chase offers cash back credit cards, rewards credit cards, travel credit cards and business credit cards. Get a Chase credit card now.

If you sign up with this link, I get bonus points as well. If you have any questions about it, let me know.

Already have one but just chiming in to say I too love my Bonvoy card and Marriott rewards! I get far more benefit from it than I do my old cash back card especially in nights toward my lifetime status. It took me 10 years to hit lifetime silver (250 nights + 5 years of silver status). Got my card about a year and a half ago I think and I'm likely going to hit lifetime gold this year with 400+ cumulative nights.

Yep. I'm lifetime gold and closing in on lifetime platinum. I've got 582 nights. The credit card definitely played a big part in advancing that status. COVID brought the progress to a halt but we'll get back to it eventually.

I had the card but I dropped it because of lack of travel. I had trouble using those three bonus nights. Maybe once it all opens up.

Yeah we’ve been racking up points. I know we’ll use them eventually. And Marriott has been great about extending the expiration date on any bonus certificates.

Copied from the Las Vegas Advisor daily newsletter today which I have a subscription.

            March 11, 2024 10:16 MGM-Marriott in Action:

Eight months after the initial announcement that MGM Resorts was switching its loyalty partnership from Hyatt to Marriott, the new system is operating. Marriott members can now both redeem and earn Bonvoy points for stays at 16 MGM resort-casinos around the country. The least expensive stay appears to be 5,000 points for a room night at Excalibur, followed by New York-New York at 9,000; Bellagio at peak times is running as high as 150,000 points. All kinds of bonus-point options are available, escalating for higher tier statuses. Several estimates we've seen peg a Bonvoy point at eight-tenths of a cent, so a $120 room would run around 15,000 points. Note, however, that unlike with the World of Hyatt partnership, Marriott members will be charged the resort fee; you can pay for that with points, but it raises the redemption rate significantly. Hyatt has established a partnership with the Rio -- and still without the resort fee.

Wow, 5,000 points for a night at Excalibur is dirt cheap. Of course from what I hear that place is pretty run down but still. I’ve got almost 900,000 points. I could stay there for 6 months on points.

We're not much of travelers, but when we do we are more prone to stay at an Airbnb. The GF does have a CITI card that earns 2% cash back on everything. Most of her Xmas shopping this past year was funded by her reward points.

ohh MGM grand has had it for a couple years - they must have been trialing before rolling it out to the rest of their properties. I didn't realize that was part of the plan. I don't love Vegas, but as an event planner, I find myself there at least a couple times a year. Glad to know there are more options where I can accumulate points.

That side note on Rio is an odd one - that's a HUGE loss for Hyatt to lose all those MGM properties. Their plans for Rio look nice but its off strip and I don't get the appeal to stay there. There were rumors they were going to demolish it and put in an MLB stadium... I'm still kind of bummed that's not happening.

Yep, the stadium is going where Tropicana is instead, which seems like an awful plan putting it right on the strip. I think the Rio location would have made more sense, but they didn't ask me.

Oh nice! I figured the whole deal had just fizzled out. Agree its a terrible location for a stadium but I do admire Vegas' ambition to bring in allll the pro sports to keep its tourism booming.
