  • Making Money With Minecraft?

So, I was at the mall last weekend, looking at kids toys. Minecraft was all over the place. This got me thinking, there may be some way to make money from the growth of games like Minecraft.

Has anyone here looked into this - possibly setting up a Minecraft server, selling courses or making special apps for the game? Anything like that?

I haven't heard about Minecraft, but I've heard about some kind of weird modding economy happening with a similar game called Roblox. However, the strength of these type of "businesses" rely on the strength of the game itself, as well as how developers treat their modding community. I don't know, I can't help but think that maybe something like Second Life is a better place to try your hand at a modding business... if you're into that.

As for Minecraft itself, Notch already made his billions selling it to Microsoft, and even now, MS has big plans for the game. So, we'll see what they do with that. However, I am not sure how to monetize it without running to MS lawyers?

Thanks to Minecraft though, there is was a bit of a grassroot renaissance for survival crafting games that still exists to this day. I can personally vouch that both 7 Days to Die, and The Forest are excellent games... for alphas. Fingers crossed that they get stable enough and optimized in the near future. But um, not sure how to monetize that either, but who knows... there may be opportunities there.

You can always try your hand at being a pro Twitch streamer, streaming these games.

There are people that already are making money from World of Warcraft. They build up a character and sell them to the highest bidder.

I'm not sure how Minecraft works. Are there characters or worlds that can be saved and transferred to other people? If so, then maybe this is a marketable idea. Often, games are in a closed world and can't share aspects of itself with remote users.

What is the demographic of a Minecraft player? With WOW there was/is an adult following. They were more than willing to pay for content. If Minecraft is more of a younger demographic, then one might have trouble selling to them since their target consumer often won't have money of their own.

Ah yes, selling characters is indeed a market unto itself out there, but alas, Minecraft does not apply in this case.

Minecraft's target market is usually the very young, say, those in elementary school. However, people as old as young adults do play the game as well.

While I am here, another thing I've seen are "pro" players in competitive games who also provide coaching to personal aiding (such as pocket healing) or a bit of both. They also try to garner a fan following, and eventually, even corporate sponsporship. This is especially so in Asian countries, but I have heard of smaller instances of it here in the west as well.

Oh yeah, and then there's stuff like gold farming, which is frowned upon.

They are actually many ways you can make money from Miencraft. I know many would say, earning in youtube, setting blogs and ****, server bla bla, but let me tell you in a different perspective, let your eyes open wide and see the world in a better view from up here! Okay let’s get to it!

Be a Minecraft Teacher - In these days, many schools implement Minecraft to students from age 8 to 15. Some teachers are even required to learn Minecraft to teach their subject, and most school that does that gets the fame.
Teaching kids via online. Have you seen courses like programming or codding with Minecraft? Yeah, that is one of the way too.

Inventing courses for Enrichment center - Look around you, find those enrichment center that has “VR, 3D printing and Minecraft” or find those “minecraft camps” come up with your own course and propose to the company or see what improvement they can make.
Programme or Make Maps - Some people are looking for certain people who know certain skills or style of making or building things in their Minecraft server, get your reputation up and promote your work. Some people pays $500 per map.
