  • Anybody using Facebook Marketplace?

    Hey Guys,

My girlfriend has had good results with the Facebook marketplace functionality. Have any of you guys used it? How is the profitability relative to craigslist or ebay?

I have an acquaintance who did well on Ebay, starting from it's inception. Moved into selling clothing then to facebook marketplace.
Ebay was her full time job. 6 years ago she made about $800 a month. I would frequently look to her sold items for inspiration. She knows her stuff.

Now she sells clothes on Facebook making about 4-5 hundred dollars a month. Kinda funny since she dresses real frumpy.
She still lists an item here or there on Ebay.

She is home alot so people coming over to buy items is workable, Now she makes about $400-$500 a mo.

Probably depends upon the amount of time you are at home versus away

I see this as one of the more lucrative, do-able, ways to make money with little investment

The area we live in is far enough off of the main thoroughfares that Facebook Marketplace doesn't make sense unless it's a really high value item that I'd be willing to drive a distance to deliver or a buyer would be willing to drive a distance to pick up, so I've yet to use it.

But I do use a local Facebook garage sale site occasionally with good results.

I might give it a shot but I'm not too keen about having a lot of people come to my home

I have tried it, and it's relatively similar to other options I've used. I think the one benefit over stuff like Craigslist is that you can see who is actually selling something. Sure, they could have a fake profile, but those are generally pretty obvious by a brand new profile, or very few "friends", or names (& friend's names) that are clearly foreign or gobbledegook.

The biggest downside I've found is that the marketplace is completely inaccessible from laptop/desktop computers... It seems the interface is built exclusively for mobile devices (or if not, I haven't been able to find it after multiple attempts of searching around the desktop site.)

I also haven't determined if the Marketplace draws from the various sale groups in a given area (which I am & have been a part of for a long time), or if the Marketplace is a stand alone function.

Before Facebook released MarketPlace, 450 million people used Facebook to buy and sell items.

After Facebook released Marketplace, this interaction was done though Marketplace.

However, it did not seem like a huge difference because nothing much changed. A lot of people joined but it seems small.

However, those 450 million people finally got something they wanted. They got an easier way to buy and sell than what they were previously doing.

We've just started using Facebook Marketplace to sell stuff around out house as we attempt to declutter our house of things we don't really use or need. Results have been hit and miss, I guess it depends on what you're selling and where you live.

I've used the Facebook Marketplace to get rid of stuff when I was moving between states. It was pretty successful and I got more feedback there than I did on Craigslist actually.

I used it once to buy a tv stand for my man cave.

I would say that when I posted a drone on multiple sites for sale, people kept contacting me months late via facebook.

So the ad was clearly still showing up

Sold my car using Facebook Marketplace for $5000.

Craigslist got me a few leads but died off quickly. I think facebook marketplace is better for the buyers as they can see who the seller is. More accountability

Facebook Marketplace is where I sell all my stuff now. I used to sell on eBay, but the packaging and postage costs, not to mention eBay and Paypal fees, made it not worthwhile.

If you live in a city or large town, you will always find a buyer no matter what you are selling. I am also a bit wary of inviting strangers into my home, so I arrange to meet at a neutral location, or say I will drop it off at their house.
