I've been posting a lot on YT lately. In my opinion you need to focus on quantity AND quality.

But I thought youtube works like this: Only when you have enough clicks (quality), then you will get ads on your videos!
I also heard that youtube pay people to make channels. But I think thats invitational only, so you have to get a lot of views many times over before they invite you to make a sponsored and paid channel!

I make videos and optimize them to rank on Google.

I can not share how exactly I do that, but it is a combination of views, ratings, comments, and links.

I think, if you just have a look around you will find plenty of information on how to make money of youtube BUT you need to have those cool videos

Starting is always the biggest step. Congratulation on your channel starting. The most important thing now, is to get the views. In that case, you should use good titles, description, tags for your videos. All those should cover wide range of keywords within you niche.

When you will be getting regular visitors in your videos, you should add adsense ads on them. This can be a way to earn money from your videos. Also you can apply for youtube partnership program as well where you will be get paid $200 per month by youtube. Though this offer is not available for every country. All these things depends on how many views you are getting from your videos. First you should be active to increase your views. Then you should go for monetizing.

agreed with the 2nd poster, you need things to go viral and quick, although I've heard about one guy who specialises in the cats doing strange stuff that makes money, but in the main i think it's awfully difficult

Thanks for the links. We are looking for more ways to a promote our store and if we can promote our store and earn money (even a little) would be great!

If your looking just to promote your store, the chances of really making money - You would need to have some pretty great videos! It can take quite a bit of time and effort in order to get to a place of making money.
