Okay, I have not done this for a while, but I made a few bucks on Craiglist a while back doing this.
Go to Amazon and find something that is either on sale or at a lower than usual price that you consider a very good deal. Make sure it's not just a one day only deal. Go to craigslist and post an ad for that item. Say in the ad that you have the item. Let's use a video game as an example.
Let's say your selling Call Of Duty 4. It's on sale on Amazon for $25 and it's a pretty good deal. Post the add on craigslist for the game, mark it down by $5. So sell it on Craigslist for $5 cheaper than what it costs on Amazon.
People will contact you if it is a good deal on the product. A lot of people are lazy and don't shop around. Most of them automatically thing that it's a low price because it's on Craigslist.
They will email you for the game. This is how you respond...
Wow, I just sold it to someone else. I'm so sorry, I feel horrible. To be honest it's only $5 more on Amazon right now and you can get it sent to you with free shipping. (Anything over $25 on Amazon is free shipping.) If you picked the game up it probably would have cost you $5 in gas anyway... It's your call but since you were the only other person that hit me up for the game I figured I would point you in the right direction. Hopefully the deal is still going on, here is the link to get there.
Post your link.
Now, before any of you cry spam, think about what you did. You put yourself in a Win/Win scenario. You win because you get commission if they buy, they win because they get the game for the price they truly wanted. This method has worked for me in the past, sometimes you get 50-100 responses on one item, if the item you found on Amazon is truly a good deal, they will bite. There is no reason for them not too. People know and trust Amazon.
***Disclaimer***
I have not read the TOS for Amazon in a long time, I have no idea if this is against it. More than likely it's ok, because they are clicking through to Amazon from their email. Never post your link on Craigslist itself, that could get you banned.
If you want help finding good deals on amazon go do slickdeals . net or fatwallet . com. They constantly post great deals, when you see one post the add. Aim for deals that will be going on for a bit, that way you have a little time to respond.
Also, be careful posting ads on craigslist. They have incredibly intelligent and savvy spam filters. Don't go crazy, just post one ad at a time. If you do this wisely craigslist will never bother you. If you try to get too spammy by posting tons of ads, you will have a hard time ever posting on CL again.
With all that being said, if you feel the reward is worth the risk, get out there and do some work!
