  • Credit Journey - Free Credit Score from Chase

Received an email about this today. Not necessary to be a Chase customer.

I think it's great that scores have become more easily available. Not that I care, but I still like seeing it on our Discover bills every month. I just get a tiny bit annoyed that my wife's is always better than mine by a few points, likely because more stuff is in my name.

Last month, hers was a perfect 850 and mine was a measly 842.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

When I saw the e-mail, I was hoping it was just something they were going to add to my statement. Not something I would need to enroll in. I didn't see any catches, other than having to supply personal information on yet another website. However, I don't do that without putting some thought into the benefits or necessity of it.

Not sure if the benefit to this is anything more than satisfying my curiosity.

Thats lame you have to enroll. Its nice with discover...they just show you it.

Although in general I think the entire credit score thing is a joke and doesnt amount to much.

My score last time I looked was around a 770...and it varies between 770 and 780. Wifes score is also around the same. No debt...never missed a credit card payment ever, always paid in full, wife never had student loans...I paid mine off 10 years ago, no car loans, no mortgage...sign up for a bunch of credit cards yet it rarely changes only by a couple points. Its meaningless as far as im concerned.

Now if someone has a 500 credit score...yea that sucks...I just dont see a difference from the highest score you can get vs something around what I have?

There are a few tiers. Within the tiers, there really is no difference. It's only when you move between tiers that it can affect things.

That link works, I signed up. The data is based on Experian. The neat thing about it is they have a similar tool which allows you to explore various options for improving your credit score.

I think the downside is they probably add your information to a mailing list, so likely you'll get some mailings and or emails with Chase products or Chase partner products.

I decided to sign up. It is powered by TransUnion, not Experian.

              My score is 817
