  • cable or not?

How many on here have cable? We're debating it. My DH is lusting for it again with football season on. He didn't have it last year and we had a lot of trouble getting games with the antenna. We have that flat antenna. Unfortunately we're stuck with only comcast for internet we have no other choices. So our internet special only price is $69/month for a year.

Before where we lived we had local channels and a box for a deal of $5 more than FIOS internet so it was worth it to us. He wanted super fast internet and it was ridiculous to add the box we had it free and the package deal was $5 more.

I'm not sure what they will offer us now. What do most people have? No cable and just internet? Is it cheap? Realize we can't switch. We had to have comcast come out special to install internet when we moved in. Previous tenants didn't have internet. We've called and asked everywhere and it's just not available.

We only have Internet, no cable; we don't like to watch TV. We recently bought a TV and antenna so our son can watch PBS (he earns viewing times as a reward) when we realized that TV is important for a kid's social life.

I do buy cable TV and Internet for my parents (who lives in a nearby house when they visit). They like to watch TV. After getting our own TV, my son's desire to visit g. parents dropped a lot.

As for price, we are paying $35/mo at home and $75/mo for parents house; these are discount prices. Both are with Comcast.

Personally, I'd just get cable TV in your situation. It is actually cheap entertainment if one likes to watch TV.

We just cancel our cable/internet/phone and house alarm since we put our home in the market. Looking forward to be lean in our next move without cable, only Internet/Hulu/Netflix. So far we love it.

I have Directv with most of the sports channels. Three TVs, $100 a month. I'd pay three times that if I had to, but don't tell Directv!

As a sports lover I feel your husband's pain LAL. Without cable TV, I would have a nervous breakdown.

            I have cable.

Do I NEED it? No. Do I enjoy it? Yes.

I like sports. I like watching the news. Sometimes I like watching mindless shows after a long day.

We're paying around $150 a month. It's expanded basic, with internet and 4 cable boxes.

Just internet here (and Netflix). Local channels pulled in with an antenna.

Internet only, and VUDU movies. I buy the codes off people on google plus for cheap. I bought the new Disney Jungle book last night for 4.99. I keep my movie selection down to appropriate movies. I don't like the garbage. I cut satellite years ago due to money trouble, and when we got to where we could afford it I got it back. It didn't take long for me to get sick of it between commercials, nothing worth watching, and the price. I canceled it when my contract was about up, and I went to Netflix only. A few months ago I once again got sick of the garbage and the highly inappropriate cartoons even for my kids. We just felt TV is a waste. We like watching movies together, but we don't just sit and watch tv all the time. We are wondering why our kids are growing up dysfunctional. Tv isn't helping by making dysfunctional entertaining. That's my opinion.

IF you want sports and major channels check out sling tv if you have internet. Live TV/sports over the internet for cheap.

I have local channels, HBO and Internet through Comcast.

I got rid of Phone and Cable through Verizon and their bill for just Internet was over $70. When I called Comcast, they had a deal for Internet PLUS local channels and HBO for $55 total.

Cable isn't an option at our rural location, so we have Direct TV which is expensive. Before satellite became mainstream, we just had an antenna which still works fine, is free, and gets maybe 20 channels.

If it was just me, I'd be content with the antenna and an occasional movie rental, but you know what they say ... Happy wife = happy life.

We just have the internet, Netflix, and our antenna. We dropped cable several years back to save money, but it really wouldn't cost us al that much more to add it. At this point, I am quite happy to have cable out of my life.

If DH wants sport channel football, it's a no brainer to reward him for all his hard work and cooperation of the past year. I can't imagine giving up internet, to use the library and businesses supplied WiFi

I've found that we don't watch much TV but DH is dying for football and hockey. Before kids and more time he had the hockey NHL package and football package. Neither now. Matter more of time. But he's unhappy mostly with trying to catch the local channels on our antenna. We get one or two and it cuts out for some reasons. Where we used to live it could work but we had cable for so cheap that we didn't care.

I'm curious if Comcast will give us a deal. Otherwise I guess we'll do satellite. Dave I am going to call comcast.

Good I looked into sling and it cost us $25 a month which I wonder if I can beat just getting local channels from Comcast. We used to get channels for $5 from Verizon which is enough although ESPN apparently is a huge draw. He said he won't do the packages for sports since he doesn't have time.

                          Anybody do the sport packages?

I used to get the sports package but not anymore. To get my money's worth I would watch endless sports which was a huge time waster.

MLB $120 per season (did about 5 years in a row)
NBA $150 per season (did about 2 years in a row)

The NFL package was too expensive for me to justify paying for although I could afford it.

You should be able to get ESPN online. No need to sub to cable just for that.
