  • What the heck is wrong with people? Rant warning!

Someone I know just posted this on facebook.

Probably won't be on FB much after tonight cause my extremely over priced rip off blood sucking cable company won't give me a friggin extension on paying my bill later then tomorrow so my internet&cable will be off!
So she can't manage to pay her cable bill on time and that is somehow Comcast's fault. She also mentioned that her bill is over $200/month.

Sorry but I just don't buy into the whole victim mentality that so many people seem to have today. It is nobody's fault but yours if your cable bill is over $200. Don't blame the cable company. Don't blame anybody. You could cancel that service at any time. You could trim back to the most basic plan they offer at any time. Or you could go out and work harder, get a 2nd job, do whatever to boost your income if having the high-priced service is that important to you. Personally, I hope her service is off for a good long time. Maybe unplugging will teach her something about priorities.

I hate when people complain about personal finances that aren't justified. My cousin is a widow and is pissed that she walked into this great job because she is friends with the person leaving, developing programs for students at a private college, both kids will get free educations at a very good school, anyway, she is pissed that because of her high pay she won't get the SS death benefit anymore. And she is wealthy, wealthy, not McMansion wealthy. She was comparing it to my SSDI amt that is very hard to live on. The next day, she posted on FB that she bought a horse.

Do not bitch to me about your SS when you have 2 free educations coming, belong to two country clubs and cavalierly buy a horse when you know I am barely making it. Shaddup!

sorry, I felt like ranting about idiots, too!

In most cases, once a victim, always a victim. Having her cable turned off won't teach her anything about personal responsibility, it'll just reinforce her belief that she's the victim of the world's cruelty. The only way to recover from this (falsely) perceived sense of victimization is to finally realize that each of us has both control & responsibility over ourselves, and then to actually take control of their life. Some people eventually figure it out & grow up. Others never do, and wither into their old age always believing themselves a victim.

I have a few friends like this...they blame everything that falls onto their lap on someone else. They will not take responsibility for the issues they cause themselves.

And $200/month for comcast is ridiculous. Even if they do have the triple play they must have all the channels along with 75meg or 100meg down. .

It's a personality thing. I have friends who are naturally cocky(probably was fed too many compliments since birth or something) and they play the victim every step of the way because nothing is EVER their fault.

And just where did all this victim stuff come from anyway? Why? Have these people never heard of real victims of serious stuff?

These are the types of people that think the world revolves around them, so no they probably aren't thinking much at all of anyone else real problems.

                  LOL... first world problems, huh.

200/month for cable is not something I would admit to. Thats embarrassing! I find it truly hilarious what people really think they need, and cant live without in terms of internet service and cable TV.

I am an IT professional and do A-OK on 20Mb DSL, along with Netflix, Hulu, and broadcast TV. As an added bonus, I endure very few political adverts... its glorious!

Nobody needs 100Mb service at thier home... nobody.

It is curious when people do this kind of thing. Cable and satellite are considered needs by some today instead of wants.

I spoke to someone recently who didn't want to get rid of cable although they had student loans, credit cards, personal loans, a mortgage, and owed the IRS. Somewhere along the lines of 300k+ in debt.

Keep doing what you're doing and you will keep getting what you're getting. Change is uncomfortable and requires perseverance.

In a way, we are going to finance this person's future possibly in the form of gov benefits, increased credit card costs, or even just her drag on the US economy.

$200 for cable? That's certainly possible and acceptable with a few pay-per--view sports where family and friends gather around. In a way, it'll be cheaper than going out to a bar or the movies for a large group of friends. So, it's not about cable, this person may just put that same amount (or even more) on her CC and not pay.

BTW, she probably owes the cable company more than $600. I've not paid my cable bills for 3 months and still have service; and I didn't even see late fees on my bill. Cable is one of the most generous provides I've dealt with. Now I'm routinely late by a month

americans have the strongest sense of entitlement than anywhere else in the world and i see it everywhere, everyday. that FB poster really believes she should not be cut off and has the "how dare them" attitude.

just yesterday i was putting on tires at a small 2 man shop and some floozy rolls in telling the guy she needs air, he tells her after he's done with me he will give her air. she tells him she needs it now, looks at me and says is it 0k? i gave no reaction and the guy did it real quick, the time taken from me wasnt bothering to me it was her sense of entitlement that bugs me

I've seen similar posts from some people I know on FB. One was how her cellular provider was going to shut off service due to nonpayment. She called the company to ask for an extension but they denied her citing the fact that she almost always pays late. She then admitted in her post that she does pay late every month. One of her friends (not me) actually called her out on her post. Her friend said, "How would you like it if the parents that you do afterschool daycare for stopped paying and insisted that you continue to watch their children?" She responded by saying that's different because "XYZ" carrier has enough money and can afford to wait for her to pay when she has enough money. Seriously I hate that attitude. It doesn't matter if the company can afford to wait for your payment the fact is you are demanding service for something you didn't pay for. It's tantamount to stealing.
