Brad, if I understand it correctly you have decided to buy another car now to reward yourself for your hard work and plan to graduate in summer 2013. While you believe your current car is not suitable for a firefighter/paramedic, is it not adequate for your current student status.

I hope you understand that your point of view is not logical for people wanting to offer you advice that is in your best financial interest.

Sorry Brad, just trying to save you from a similar pain that I experienced. It's clear you won't listen, good luck.

Thanks everyone else for the support!

I've learned that you're never too old for a lecture on something you know little about. Whether you are "almost 20" or 80, it doesn't matter. Your warning to not lecture you reminded me of how some of my diabetic patients respond when we discuss their diet plans.
You've already received some good advice, and it seems the responders all agree that your current plan is unwise. How about "rewarding" yourself after the race is won? After graduation + job secured...

Do you currently have a vehicle or how have you been getting to where you need to be? If so, keep that car or continue getting around the way you have been. Also, 11k is a lot to spend for someone with your income who is a student.
