As I'm single I only have my feet to worry about, and last year I only bought 1 pr. of sneakers for $20.

In the three prior years combined I bought:
    1 pr. sneakers - $25
3 pr. dress shoes like new on ebay - $8 total (only touched one pair so far)
1 pr. dress shoes like new at yard sale - $5 (my current work shoes)
1 pr. old sneakers (but solid) to wear when I don't need perfect sneakers - $.50
3 pr. Okabashi sandals in after season sales - $6 total (I love those sandals)

I guess that comes in under $20/year.
Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

We spent about $70/year. Not a whole lot.

I categorize my footwear seperate from my clothing expenses. I spend relatively little on clothing but as a hunter, fisherman, runner and hiker I spend about $500 a year on quality footwear. Believe me, it ain't worth it to cut costs here if you're real active.

Last year I think I spent around $140 on shoes. I bought 3 pairs - 2 pairs of sandals at around $50 each (most I'd *ever* spent on shoes in my life - one pair is completely worn out, and the other I ended up hardly wearing because they didn't really fit well.) The 3rd pair were for work/snow and were around $38.

This year I have a replacement pair of shoes already for work that I got free, but I will have to replace my summer/warm weather shoes. I hope to find something a lot less than the ones I have now - especially since they only lasted one season. (Part of my reasoning for buying them was that since they cost more, they should conceivably last longer. Ugh.)

Buying shoes for me is a major hassle - I HATE shoe shopping. I'm *very* picky about what I'll wear, and I have to have wide width. Those two things combined make for a prolonged and not fun shopping experience. I usually will start looking for replacement shoes 4 months or more before I actually think I may need them ... and even then may not find what I need til my current pair are in a state of disrepair.

I probably spend $200-$300 on shoes a year and most of that is one the kids. I have a 4 and 3 year old, and their feet grow like weeds. Also like a previous poster mentioned I prefer to spend money on good quality shoes for my kids however I usually pick up a pair or stride rites at the outlet or at Marshall's. I probably spend $50 a year on shoes for myself, I don't even think I bought a pair last year. I also spend money on good shoes for myself because they last longer so in the end it's cheaper because I don't have to buy a new pair every year. I live in my $150 Dansko clogs that I bought over 6 years ago.

I have bought 3 pairs of shoe and sandles which will suit on formal, casual and traditional wearing. But I think, I have spent more money on shoe this year. Because I like to wear a perfect combination of dress and all accessories so somehow I use to shop for an accessories.

What a timely thread - considering I just spent $80 for a pair of shoes I can wear that will be work appropriate and allow me to walk comfortably with my foot injury. Most expensive shoes I've purchased in my life and totally worth it.

This was the first time I chose to shop at Nordstrom over DSW. Can't say that I won't do it again.

Less than $100 for a family of 5.

We buy thrift store shoes when we can, often with tags still on them. Kids love crocs and only wear tennis shoes or hiking boots when they have to.

DH is hard on tennis shoes and he is a size 16, difficult to find, so two pairs a year at the least at around $125 each so $250 for him, plus really good quality steel-toed, arctic gear work boots every 3 years (@ about $200). I bought one pair of shoes that I wear basically everywhere last year for $50 and I have my gym shoes that I bought two pair of 3 years ago at $125 for both and they seem to be going strong. My summer shoes and slip ons I've had for several years and they don't need replacing. I wouldn't even hazard a guess on the kids' shoes as they grow so fast. There's at least four paris of sneakers a year each, some devoted just to PE. My daughter has dress boots and they both tend to get two pairs of summer shoes as their feet outgrow the first pairs bought for the season. Well, maybe a guess of $200 to $300 for them. I'm hoping DD has finally stopped growing at women's size 13, because that is getting pricier and hard to find as well, just like her dad's shoes.

Last year I spent a good $400. But some are real long lasting good quality shoes, so this year I won’t need more of them.

At least $500 per year just for me. I am a runner, so my runners are probably $150/year. I love boots, so $300-$400 for a couple pairs of boots. Probably another $80-100 for summer sandal type shoes. I'm blown away that families only spend just over $300/year on average.

I just spent close to $300 for my DD19's work shoes (1 pair of steel toed boots, and 1 pair of steel toes shoes). She's in the automotive repair program at college becoming a mechanic.

PS - I'm in Canada, and things like shoes are a bit pricier here (you guys get better deals in the States). Plus, I don't like cheap shoes (especially for running in). I find I get what I pay for.

I just got a 40% off offer for my local New Balance warehouse, so I bought some shoes for a good price.... I really don't spend much on shoes, it's time to get a new pair when there's a good sale.

I'm a woman so I buy shoes depending on what's trendy lol

But I do buy shoes which can be easily paired with other clothes so I really don't spend a lot on it (I think) like other women.

I also use my shoes until they can be a bit worn out (I'm inlove with the ones I buy lol). But I try to look for really well-made and sturdy ones so I won't have to replace/dispose often.

I'd have to say I spend around $500 a year
