That's how my ex was!

My bf and I are doing the three account finances and it is working very well for us. Ironically we probably would be okay with just one joint account because our spending patterns are pretty similar, but I have found that it is just easier for my sanity to not have to think about what he purchases as long as his half of the bills are paid, and I don't have to feel like asking about every purchase I make.

I guess in a way I have a "secret stash", but mostly because he doesn't worry about how much money I have as long as the bills are paid.

No. No secret stash. I have made transparency a condition of finance with my wife. I don't always get the same in return but I have no secret stash. I will admit that the thought is tempting at times!

Yes, priceplus, isn't it. I think you are doing right.
I have no secret stash from my husband. I give him an allowance which does not even cover his gas now, so i usually have to give him more.
My first husband was terrible with money. I did open a small savings account in my name only and keep a little in there. I usually had to use it to pay property taxes.

i accidentially stash money in my car, coat pocket, jeans pocket, in my suitcase, etc... i usually have close to 400 dollars in loose money, i can hunt and just put it back... i never go out of the house, unless i take twenty bucks, with me... my son is a cop and he said it could save my life if i am robbed.... but, most of the time, i spend it... lol.

I have put money away when I was mad at my husband for spending too much money on his favorite game of Everquest and I had to use some of my allowance to pay a bill; but in that he is so honest with me about his and so giving to my family, I showed him where my stash was in case I have an emergency diabetic attack or other emergency where he would need to access cash in the house right away. As it turned out, our son called from Virginia and was in a jam and the money was sent to him.

I do, kind of. Everyone knows where it is but not how much it is.
If you do stash away a significant sum, make sure someone knows where it is in case something happens to you.

I've started keeping better records; when my Mom passed away we couldn't even find her [per the lawyer] updated will!

I have some bills under my dresser scarf in my bedroom. I don't use an ATM card of any sort, so this is my "bank" if something comes up weekends or evenings.

I don't use an ATM card either! If I really need something and I don't have cash, I will charge it and then pay it off the next month.

Well sometimes I get extra money I put into my oldest daughters savings which oldest dd is not my husbands child so I put it in thier & never mention that I had extra it feels like I am hiding it but I am really only looking out for my kids. If I told dh I had extra it would be gone in a heartbeat!!
