do you know a computer geek?

if so they tend to have spare parts... free to good home sometimes, but they don't advertise, so ask.

right now my husband has several screens he could replace yours easy and free, bring fudge as a trade.

Looking for a brand new or used computer overall might not be bad. Computers are really cheap now and as long as you do your calculations, you shouldn't have a problem with computer costs.

I agree, look around for a used one. We bought my mom a refurbished laptop for Christmas for $200, and his mom a $75 desktop + monitor. Lots of people will be trashing their "old" systems because they got new ones for Christmas.

As far as your issue, I would also suggest going with an external monitor.

Stop worrying about having "sunk" so much money in it you could have bought another one by now. If you had bought a new computer after $300 in repairs, your screen probably would have still cracked. It didn't crack because there is some defects with screens, it cracked because of something like a change in temperature if not you dropping it or bumping it.

Its pretty easy to find CRT monitors on craigslist for $20 or so. I would go with that.
That doesn't really make any sense to me. If I keep repairing and still have to throw it out then I have the cost of the repairs PLUS the new/used system.

best bet is to look for free monitors in craigslist and connect to your laptop. Once you've built enough cash, then go for newer one. no point in sinking more and more money in the old one. sometimes, we need to move irrespective of what had been spent earlier

                Thanks for the links.

DB got a monitor from a buddy against my wishes. Hopefully I can sell it and get something for it. I contacted my local computer shop and while they can't help me get a new one (they don't really do financing) they can break my pc down for parts. So I'll get some money off of that.

I'm not known for having good people skills around here and this response will prove it.

I consider you an oxy moron( not moron). Advising people to take out loans on monitors and offering pay day loans on a site designed for good personal finance is strange at best. IMO.

Check out free cycle sometimes you can find a use laptop and just remove the Lcd and add it to yours. Somes times Bestbuy have them on sell, it may not be the one that you want but will get the job done for school
