  • Time to start working on taxes again

It's that time again. Time to start organizing the medical bills, charitable donation receipts and all those other things that I'll need to file taxes in a couple of months. I spent a little time tonight sorting everything into sub-folders: 1 for ebay sales, 1 for charity, 1 for survey income, 1 for medical expenses, etc. Soon the 1099s and year-end investment statements will start arriving and they'll go in another folder. At least I keep it all well organized so tax time isn't a headache. In fact, I actually kind of enjoy tallying everything up and seeing how we made out during the year.

My taxes is very simple this year. Just 1 job with the only deductions being 401k, student loan interest, and property tax. Nothing else. I think I'll save a bunch on tax prep this year, but I'll owe a ton more of taxes on top of what was withheld.

i've already completed mine (as much as can be done). I use turbo tax online. I know the numbers that go in - all i have to wait for now is the W2s to come in to ensure adequate figures! i enjoy working on taxes (albeit, ours are pretty simple so far -- we did gain the benefit of itemization this year! usually standard deduction exceeds itemizing...but not this year).

I use a CPA. During the year, I keep a MSWord document pinned to my desktop.
I add tax deductions there through the year.
I also have a big yellow envelope I put any tax related documents in.
My CPA sends me an E-Organizer that I plug all the figures into.
I have started , but W-2's won't be here for a few weeks.
Hoping to get taxes done earlier than usual this year.

I can't believe time has gone by so fast!

I will use TurboTax again this year. It works well and enables you to retrieve a copy of the previous years tax return with no problem. However, I am going to go through 7 years of tax returns and scan each year onto CD in case something happens to my paperwork.
