      The Tri-State area is insane:

      My Coop in NYC--worth $425k--taxes $3000
Sister in NJ-- House worth $700k=taxes $11,000
      Sister on LI--House worth $500k=taxes $7400
      Close Friend in Westchester County, NY--House (not a mansion..a modest 31oo sf) worth 1.2 million= taxes $16,000

You need alot of cabbage to live in NY/NJ/Ct if you want to own a home

We're in NJ, too. We pay $8900 in taxes here at the Jersey Shore.

My sister lives in Madison, NJ... she pays $32,000 a year in taxes.

Just curious... How are the schools in your area? Where does most of the tax revenue for the schools come from?

In Oklahoma, our 1500sqft on 0.5 acres worth 150k was about $650 a year for property tax. But we also paid state income taxes. Now in Texas, no state inome tax, live in a 1350sqft. on 0.4 acres worth around 65k, taxes for the year are about $1300. We are moving next month to a 1100 sqft on a tiny lot, worth around 170k, taxes we are told run around $1800 a year. Still not too shabby.
