  • A Real Eye Opener

Have any other forum members read American Theocracy? This book discusses the ties between oil, relgious fundamentalism in America, and the private and public debt trap that has ensnared the country.

Don't be fooled from the above description that this book was written by someone on the political left. The author is Kevin Phillips, a dyed in the wool Republican who is dismayed at the path that party has taken in the last several years. It's a great read.

I think Kevin Phillips is indeed an old-line Republican.

See his bio: ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I'd go into more political dialogue, but this probably isn't the place.

I know what you mean, but it's impossible to separate politics from finance as American Theocracy illustrates. And if this book isn't appropriate to discuss in a financial forum, I don't know what is.

He's the one who wrote the critique of Reagan/Bush supply side theory correct? It still makes me laugh that so many otherwise intelligent people can convince themselves that: 1 - lower taxes always generate more government revenue and 2 - Taxation policy is simple enough to explain on a single graph like the Laffer curve.

Actually I think that he's written several such critiques.
