Come on now. You've been here for a month. Brian has been here for nearly 11 years. I think he's got a pretty solid idea of who frequents the site.Steve

Based on what I am reading from the other site administrator, there is an awful lot of lurkers on a regular basis. Perhaps if stories about someone saving money were further emphasized instead of being ridiculed, the site would convert more lurkers into members.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostCome on now. You only quoted part of my post, which ended up being deleted for some reason. Brian's comment in response to the $240/hr analogy was idiotic and ridicules people that take a little time to save money.

Fair point. For better or worse, the most active members tend to be financially successful. We had an income poll a while back and the vast majority of respondents earn over 100K. Of course, the flip side of that is that folks who need help the most are often not the ones seeking it out.Originally posted by PeggyHefferon View PostPerhaps if stories about someone saving money were further emphasized instead of being ridiculed, the site would convert more lurkers into members.
When someone does come along and post their struggles, and then mentions that they earn 25K or 30K, obviously one of the top comments is going to be the suggestion to boost income. Clipping coupons isn't going to fix the situation when you simply aren't earning enough money.
Give me a smartphone, an internet connection, and a car, and I could earn 25K/year easily on top of my regular full time job. So while it's great for that person to be finding those coupons and deals to stretch their money a tiny bit farther, they would be far better off focusing their efforts on earning more. $20 is $20 for sure, but if they could find a way to earn even $5,000 extra per year, that would be equivalent to getting 5 of those $20 deals every week.
I'm not the one who deleted your post but another mod or admin may have felt it was a personal attack. You only quoted part of my post, which ended up being deleted for some reason. There's nothing wrong with saving money. Nobody here is going to argue that point. But as I've said before, the degree to which people are willing to go to save a buck will vary from person to person. For the guy in that article, he obviously felt what he did was worth $20. For Brian, apparently not. Neither one is right or wrong. There are things I'm willing to do to save money. There are things I'm not willing to do. And some of the things I'm willing to do, my wife is not willing to do. To each his own.Steve
