I think draydel's referring to going green and such. Have you ever heard of earthships?

For me living in a 128 sqft place is like prison. I could live in it if I had to, but no way would I want to. I think part of the reason I want to live comfortably is because I don't have any life long ambitions that I would quit my job over, so if it was just a stress thing I'd change my job, not my career.

Actually that's not entirely true. If I won enough at the lottery I'd quit my current job.

I would never desire to live in that small sq footage. Before buying our current home we rented a 300 sq foot mother in law apartment. I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't easily squeeze my preggo belly into the kitchen area to cook. (entrance was between the fridge and counter) It worked for our needs before children.

Now we live in 1600 sq feet with 2 kids 2 adults and it's more space than we need. I can see us living here with 4 kids. Although it would be nice to have a play room....

I am obsessed with getting a Tiny Home and putting it on a small parcel of land in the mountains. I currently live in a 500 square foot condo. As a single person I have more than enough room. Am also aggressively downsizing and de-cluttering so that I'm able to live even more comfortably in my place. It's surprising how comfortable you can be in a small space. I love it!

If that works for them, then great. But, it's not for me. I'd feel like I'm in prison living in a house like that. And, I have way too much stuff for something that small.

The room I rented for a few months (before the landlady did a 180 on me) while I was working on my Master's was approximately that size. Of course, I also had the use of the attached living room as well as use of the kitchen and 2nd bathroom. But 95% of my time was spent in my room where I had a bed, desk, and dresser. (Most of my things were in storage, otherwise it wouldn't have worked at all.)

I think I could easily live in 500sq ft though, as long as it included a bathroom and some kind of kitchen facilities.

Small spaces keep life simple. You don't have too much of an urge to shop if there's nowhere to put the things you buy. That said, I'd get pretty crabby if I had to live in a space THAT small.

Several years ago I saw and article on line about an apartment building in China that had 100 apartments (at least) that were 100 sq. ft. There was a snapshot from the doorway of each apartment to show how the people living in them coped with the space. One apartment, 6 people lived in it! They had no windows, no kitchen, one electric outlet--dangerous I know. But these people were apparently very happy to have a place to live that was affordable. On that note, would I want to live in a space that small? No way. We have a large house but most of it is taken up with storage, workspace for the businesses we run.If we weren't doing that and I didn't sew (with the accompaning stash of fabric) I could live in a much smaller space and at times I have.

Not unless it was under extreme duress and I got rid of dh, the kids and the dogs.
