Steve Jobs resigns from Apple, Cook becomes CEO | Reuters

(Reuters) - Silicon Valley legend Steve Jobs on Wednesday resigned as chief executive of Apple Inc in a stunning move that ended his 14-year reign at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage.

    ...

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come," he said in a brief letter announcing his resignation.

Almost a shame, he's led the company very well for a long time -- Apple has led the trends in much of the computer/technology market for a number of years now. But, it's the way of business that leadership will change over time. I only hope his health isn't failing him.

So far, the share price hasn't taken as much of a hit as I thought that it would. It was down less than 2%.

I guess we need to wait and see how the share price is going to be affected by this. I dont really expect a huge drop though. Jobs will still be in the company as the chairman.

He will still have an impact on Apple. He just won't be there day to day.

He's made enough of an impact on Apple for them to survive without him for a long time, however there is no denying that he changed the world as it is today, and he will definitely be missed.

I was really surprised by this. It doesn't look like he is retiring, does it, if he is still on their board of directors, or something like that? Who knows...it is kind of sad...
