  • Firefighters Sit & Watch House Burn, Charge Family $10,000 For Coming

A Gilbert family whose home burned to the ground while town firefighters refused to douse the flames will get a bill from the private fire company that eventually responded.

Gilbert firefighters responded to the blaze and made sure no life was at risk, but did not fight the fire under a town policy because it is in an unincorporated area.

Rural/Metro officials said they'll bill the family about $10,000 dollars anyway...

that is disgusting but that's how it works

my DH company gets billed anytime the fire department comes out for any reason ,also they got a bill from the cops when they reported a burglary

not much public service, just a business ,no compassion, firemen who watch someones house burn ,that should build some bad karma for themselves

Sounds appalling at first... but then I read in the article that residents in the unincorporated area voted against joining the community, which included being covered by the fire service.

my DH had a neighbor who was one house outside the fire district, they responded to the call but just stood there when the neighbor asked why they were not helping they said well you are not in our district ,then the neighbor told the firemen to get off his property or he would shoot them as trespassers

only thing worse than firemen doing nothing is them sitting around being spectators to others grief, they should not respond to calls outside their distric at all just stay at the station and proect the people they are paid to protect, they are just employees after all nothing more

in emergency situations, these things should be put aside. it was a cruel act

if a fire fighter dies in the blaze from smoke inhalation, I am guessing the insurance policy for the fire fighter could be questioned.

before you question the people which put their lives at risk, think of the risks they take every day.

I would like to monitor this one legally. Sounds like a political "in-your-face" that cost a family their home.
