I would delete it. I always encourage constructive criticism but, there a point where you have to draw a line.

Thank you for deleting the comment. It was offensive!

This problem very seldom comes up, I am happy to say.

Isn't it great that so many comments are positive. I work on the idea... if in doubt leave it out. So I always delete so that noone becomes offended.

              Keep it up.

I delete any posts that are offensive (language or content). Any posts that are simply critical of my ideas or my financial methods are not removed.

I find that you dont have to police these comments. If someone says something that is plain stupid, someone else will come along and call them out.

Im not saying you dont maintain all comments, just ones like this. People arent sheep, awaiting to be brainwashed(like some may think.)

If a person puts a comment online then they can expect that others will comment. This should mean that a person thinks before commenting and that we all will benefit from seeing ideas that differ from our own.

Re: Negative Comments-what do you do?

I don't think that a commnet would brainwash someone-not sure how that got in there-and my original post indicated I wasn't averse to ideas different than my own.

I felt fine deleting a comment that referred to condoms in a crude way on a site where I didn't think it would be appreciated.

The question wasn't whether any negative comment should remain; it was if some that "crossed the line" should be deleted and what constituted "the line."

Re: Negative Comments-what do you do?

Ooooh, I just deleted my first comment.

IT totally depends. I just got a comment from a guy who signed up with the site to tell me how horrible Cookie LEe was. After reading the first 1000 words and still not getting exactly why he felt this way I hit the delete. Wasn't exactly getting to the point. HEck if he had a point I don't think I would have cared so much, but the million-word comment was a bit much.

I think overall it depends how bad the comment is and who posted it. If a regular member posted something I don't think I'd really care no matter what it was. If someone sign up with an agenda not pertaining to this site, eh, delete...

I am pleased with this site overall - very positive. I have frequented blogs that get pretty nasty.

Re: Negative Comments-what do you do?

I use comment moderation (I use Blogger) so that I have to clear any comments. I enabled this because of so many spammers and bots crawling my blog and putting in nonsensical comments!

Since then I haven't gotten any truly negative comments, but I would probably publish them with a response. Someone who calls another person an "idiot" to criticize them, and gets a reasonable response, looks foolish. Let readers decide for themselves.
