  • ING Direct's Advertising

I've noticed that they have been doing a lot more advertising on big name web sites (places like myspace) lately.

why dont they just raise there rates?

Ah yes, the age old questions.
    Why are we here?
    Is there life after death?
Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone?
Why does Donald Trump do that to his hair?
And perhaps the most puzzling, why won't ING raise its rates?

I think ING's practice now is to keep the rate attractive to people who don't shop around or don't know much about the other offers, while boosting clientele through major advertising and running their 'introductory save-up special offers.' I expect they have a formula in mind for what to do and when. Thus far, apparently, they don't need a higher rate to maintain their desired customer base and deposits.

I would have never known about anyone but ING if I had never found this site. I guess I would have eventually learned of HSBC via their advertising. I can't recall seeing any television ads from anyone else.

To date, I have only seen ING and HSBC advertising on television. That's not to say that they are, in fact, the only ones, but they are the only ones that I have seen.

ING must be doing something right... Look at how much we're still talking about them.

Like they say in Hollywood, bad publicity is better than no publicity.

I bet ING is just waiting and then they are gonna raise their rate to like 6%.

hahah yeah right!!!! There profits are down from last year even though they have had 1.2 million new customers open accounts. They won't raise it that much. They will probably lower it soon.

Not only are their profits down, but the number of new accounts opened was down significantly - I think I read it was off by 37% but don't quote me on that. More and more people are becoming computer savvy and discovering that ING just hasn't kept up with it's competitors.
