I don't have any data or personal experience to back it up except when I was living in Germany and didn't receive any letters from my family for several weeks (they had been writing weekly prior to this). Well, one day we caught the mailman out behind our apartment throwing our mail into the river.

So that's where my letters were! Thanks for writing Mom!

Seriously though, he took off running - I'd never seen a postal worker move that fast - especially in Germany.

He was throwing it into the river because he didn't like Americans was what we pieced together eventually.

I know that I shouldn't have, but I found that to be pretty funny.

Nah, we found it pretty funny too. The only person who really felt shafted was my mom. Her hand-written letters weren't getting to me and she didn't get to see the guy running away.

Not keeping all of your eggs in one basket is smart, to balance out the risks and volatility of owning investments, but spreading cash out over several different FDIC insured banks seems like it will only complicate your finances.

I like ING and have a couple subaccounts, one to pay off my car quicker and another to store money that will get transfered into a Roth IRA each year.
