  • Short term trading during earnings

I have been doing short term trading in the past 6 months using 50K. I buy shares of a company before earnings and sell them immediately after earnings if the stock price goes up. If it goes down, i wait for few weeks and then sell if there is not much loss. In the past 6 months, my success rate has been good given it is a bull market. Is there any disadvantage in doing this kind of short term trading ? I totally know short term capital gain tax is more than long term but taking taxes apart, is this strategy good. ? Any inputs, advise appreciated.

How much is your $50K worth today?
Typically market timing doesn't work for most.

are there any fees for buying/selling?

if you do that frequently, then those fees (as well as taxes) take away from your investment returns...

It’s not a wash sale issue if you just buy once and sell once. It’s only a problem if you then buy again within 30 days.

but because it's international there is also the variance of currency which will affect returns right?

OP didn't mention international, but yes currency fluctuations will effect returns. with int'l holdings.

Have you through about using options to trade during earnings. Much less capital at risk with options.

Not a bad idea but just have to be aware of elevated premiums associated with options around earnings.
