If you're not a member of Costco and, depending on how you have to redeem things, you may can get an extra $20 if you sign on through Ebates. The Ebates rebate on Sharebuilder is $20 and the info page says that if you have any promo codes (for Sharebuilder) you can enter them too (when you sign up at Sharebuilder).
Not a Costco member. I've got an Ebates account tho. I checked evreward.com for other rewards programs that give a sharebuilder kickback. Looks like Ebates is the best.
Pls correct me if I'm wrong here but the problem with sharebuilder is that you're attracted to it due to its dollar cost averaging and the fact you can make small monthly contributions. However, if you have little money to spend it lowers your return by a large % - the smaller the investment the worst the % return. So, say you contribute $100 a month. They'll take $4 per trade, that means 4% loss right off the bat.
Also I believe their $4 trades are limited to Tue market orders only.
Russell,
You make good points for anyone considering using Sharebuilder.
In my case, I'm attracted by the sign-up bonus. If I open an account and make one trade, I earn $21 after the cost of the trade. I will continue to use my regular broker for regular investing.
