  • Silver Bugs- what type do you buy and why?

Silver price had been going down lately and I'm going to make another purchase. I will get at minimum 5 silver eagles since each family member gets one for Christmas.

What type of silver do you think is the best investment?
Eagles tend to have less buy to sell price spred, but also are a higher premium. Rounds are easy to find at less than $1 over spot. Are all rounds created equal, or are Sunshine rounds a better investment? How about junk silver?

I like it all and buy the cheapest I can, if I can buy Eagles for $1.50 over I will but I usually just buy generic bullion. Eagles make much better gifts than a bullion round

Good gift idea. I buy them for my daughter for her stocking because she doesn't care for candy. If you are going to buy eagles, buy the little Airtite coin capsules to put them in. Eagles get marred pretty easily with fingerprints and scratches. I think they are a $1 or $2 if you don't buy in bulk.

I buy whatever floats my boat. I'm currently on a Queen's Beasts kick, and I'm thinking of buying myself the Tuvalu Dragon for Mother's Day/my birthday just because it looks nice. The premium is insane, though. I will also buy plain bars, old decorative bars, or eagles. It just depends on what catches my eye and what the price is. When you sell, you will get some of your premium back on the eagles, not so much on the decorative rounds unless there is a market for it. Not sure if you have a coin shop nearby, but I notice 1 oz bars that say Merry Christmas and what not at different times, and nearly at spot price. I would buy those for kids so their fingers wouldn't mess them up, and they wouldn't be tempted to throw it in the vending machine for a Coke.

Buy the cheapest rounds you can, because they are only going to offer you spot when you bring them back.

Do they even give you spot? Just glancing at APMEX, they are more than a dollar below spot.

The places here give you spot, but you pay spot + when you buy.

Unless you really want physical silver, by far the easiest and cheapest way to trade silver is on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SLV. This is an ETF that closely tracks spot price. You can get in and out of silver numerous times a day with the click of your mouse, minus the brokerage commission.

10 silver eagles each year for both my boys, so that when they are 18 I will be handing them 180 silver eagles.

Monthly silver purchases have been 10oz bars or 100oz bars depending on the extra funds I have at the end of the month.
