I was thinking that the person probably swapped the badges from a Tesla onto whatever car they were actually driving. Pretty common in some circles.

Good question LAL. I don't know how people can buy & hold for so long. For me when I realize a $1000 gain, I take end up taking it.

because buying and holding is the easier thing. you don't have to watch and worry.

Do you do the same thing with your gold and silver and crypto?

buy and hold is a time proven road to wealth. Jumping in and out is not. Plus instead of paying tax on a long term capital gain you’re stuck paying more on a short term gain.

Also I realized that laziness does play a role. Sometimes you just put the money in and a year later you've looked. But that's likely not something that if you do individual stocks you should do. It's mostly for ETFs/Mutual Funds. I have had very long stretches where i've literally done nothing with our investments.

This is my default setting with investments (MFs or ETFs or stocks) .... With very limited exception, I've only ever bought investments with the intention of keeping them for years on end, so I mostly just ignore what they're doing. Money disappears from checking into the investments, and maybe a couple times a year I'll look in at it. Sure, with the benefit of hindsight I can see that I've missed out on opportunities .... but this way is far simpler & in the moment, I'd probably almost never get it right if I tried to actively manage buy/sell/hold in our portfolio.

Physical gold/silver buy & hold. Paper silver/gold is easier to buy/sell. Cryptos buy/hold/sell which is easy to sell.

In February, I took some profits off of TSLA. Today before the close I bought more TSLA shares (on sale).

All the TSLA profits that I took when I posted this in Feb 2024 is now gone in unrealized gains w/TSLA's stock price at $149 today. You win some and you lose some.

EV's had a heck of a Q2, which is a stark contrast to certain headlines and political points of view that EV's are dead. Simply isn't true, sales continue to grow and best previous numbers for multiple automakers. Tesla rallied hard closing up 10.2% on Monday after announcing it had beat analysts expectations. Tesla had a good showing but they're still down. There's a lot more nuance in the market...a lot more choice. People who are EV-curious but didn't want to buy a car from Space Karen are showing up at other automakers and spending money.
                                History will judge the complicit.
