Buy Stocks With A Gift Card

Hi Guys,

Here is a problem I have been considering on and off for the past few months.

Is there a good way to buy stocks or other assets using a gift card?

I tried ordering some silver bullion through APMEX, but the APMEX processor wouldn't take the gift card.

Thoughts?

Why do you need to buy with a gift card versus a credit card or wire transfer? I see that APMEX takes credit cards, so if you have a prepaid visa card or the like, you should be able to run it like a credit card and APMEX wouldn't know the difference.

The reason I want to use a gift card is because I have some sitting in my desk. Right now they are 'dead' money it that they are assets which are sitting in plastic form when they could be invested in stocks that pay dividends.

What kind of gift cards are you talking about? As mentioned, a prepaid Visa is one thing. An Olive Garden card is another. If you have store cards, you could sell them and use the money to invest.

Gift cards to traditional brick and mortar stores can be sold for cash. Usually less than the value they hold. Check out Raise, or CardPool.

If it is an Amex or Visa gift card, use that for your regular spending and use the money you didn't spend to buy your stocks.

One just needs to think outside the box.
