  • Governor Steve Sisolak of Las Vegas orders every Nevada casino to close at midnight

Governor Steve Sisolak announced on Tuesday that he will be ordering all casinos in the state of Nevada to remain closed for 30 days in response to the coronavirus outbreak in the U. S. and across the globe. This announcement comes after many Las Vegas casinos, including the Wynn, Encore, Venetian, Palazzo and all MGM properties voluntarily chose to cease operations.

That's serious. Casinos are a big part of the Nevada economy.

        (from the article).

        Per the Governor:
Only essential services should remain open, such as fire, police, transit and healthcare services, in addition to businesses that provide food, shelter or social services for disadvantaged populations. Nonessential services such as beauty shops, barbershops, nail, tanning, waxing salons should close until further notice. Only essential businesses should remain open, such as pharmacies, grocery stores, drug and convenience stores, banks and financial institutions, hardware stores, and gas stations. All gatherings should be postponed or canceled. This is not the time for sleepovers, play dates, concerts, theater outings or athletic events. Although you might not be experiencing symptoms at this time, you may be contagious. Do not risk your health or the health of others.

Texas, well, it certainly seems big. I ran a quick internet search and the gaming industry associations are saying that gambling contributes about 68 Billion to the Nevada economy, and about 1.8 Billion in fees and taxes.

The closures affect all of Nevada and not just Las Vegas. Reno, bars with gambling devices, super markets with gambling devices all need to turn off their gambling machines. This is unprecedent and never before had casinos been ordered to close. I had a trip to Las Vegas planned for 3/22/20 - 3/25/20 but I had cancelled it weeks ago ahead of this latest development. It's a bold move by the governor but it had to be done in my opinion.

Are you serious? You're the one who bumped up this old thread. Your ID says you are in London. I don't think you're traveling to Vegas this week with all of the travel bans.

What are they trying to achieve? You can get a corona at any time, not only after midnight. I love to gamble and to spent some evenings in casinos with my friends. But after a couple of my friends and colleagues got COVID19, I decided that I’m not taking this risk. One of my colleagues spent 5 months at the hospital, and now she recovers from home. I’ll better gamble at home, instead of going somewhere. Besides, I’ve found a bunch of different slot apps on https://www.ninjacasino.com/ So, gambling from home is no longer a problem for me.

Maybe more time to clean? Vegas is, hands down, the germiest place I travel. I get sick nearly every time we go there. And my husband brought home something really extremely bad when he was there in January this year (maybe the 'rona, maybe not, there wasn't testing available then). But I sure hope they use this downtime each night to disinfect.

I concur with that. A large proportion of the casinos would never clean their chips and employees were constantly under the weather given the unsanitary work conditions and firms would force you to work when you were sick.

It's a smart move that they made, cause they were aware of the economic impact it was gonna have, as we can see now, but at the same time they knew how real the threat was, also as we can see now.

Can anyone tell me if this restriction is still applied in the casinos in Nevada? For the last couple of months, I've been away in Indonesia, and the only place I could play some of my favorite games was online at https://gamespkv.id. Don't get me wrong, I believe it is a decent website that offers a nice game experience, but I miss the old days when you could go to Nevada with your friends, enjoy some of the games, and have those long summer nights. I miss that feeling of freedom and happiness very much.

As far as I know (and a quick Google search revealed), the casinos are open and operating at a reduced capacity.
