I'm new to investing and I'm trying to get some basic knowledge about the different types of investing out there. Everywhere I go, there seems to be an undercurrent of people who say Forex trading is a way to make good money. I think I understand it as trading currencies betting if one will go up or down against another. Is that right? I'd love it if someone could explain ti to me like I was 5 years old. I guess my big questions is whether Forex trading is a scam or not? Should I spend more time researching it, or is it an area I should completely ignore?

it is volatile, and not for rookies
same for options-
trading options is real and is highly volatile, not for rookies
If you are looking to trade, I would learn by options before I did forex, and with options focus on conservative techniques like selling covered calls.

boredpanda, there is a huge difference between investing and gambling. As a gambler, you'll do better in LasVegas than jumping into trading currencies with the definition of yourself you've offered here. You need to learn to walk before you can run with the traders... 2015 is going to be a bumpy ride, I hope you'll take some time to read a couple of the excellent, quick read books often recommended here while you squirrel away every cent/franc/pound/Yuan you can manage so that you have the sums needed to open investment and trading accounts.
