  • Actual realized Gain/Loss statement (picture)

    I lost lost $12,000 in 2 years in one of my investment accounts. I'm licking my wounds. When I come across newbies new to investing all gleery eyed and bushy tailed eager to invest, I always warn them that investing could also involve loss of principle, as in my case;

    Sorry about your losses Quarter. I've had times like that myself but hopefully, as you stated, it will be a warning to some newer investors who think that the market is all gains. It also shows that the old adage of "don't put all your eggs in one basket" is true since most of the holdings are commodities. Had there been some stocks in there the loss wouldn't have been as bad if there was one at all. I understand that this is just one of your trading accounts and I'm sure your other did better but just sayin'...

    However on the other hand, I also hope it doesn't discourage anyone to invest either because it isn't always losses either.

    And just a side note...I see its been since over a year, but I'd suggest not investing in VXX. That's one of the worst constructed ETF's out there.

      I agree. A simple, well-diversified portfolio (ie. the type you'll find on bogleheads.org) has done very well over the same time frame.

      Not trying to rub salt in your wounds QMM - just don't want folks to be scared away from investing.
