  • Is T.Rowe Price charging me to choose funds?

    Hi-
Last month I changed the asset allocation in DH's 401K from 100% bonds to 50% bonds and 50% split between 3 different funds. He noticed that his balance is $200 less than expected given his contributions, and after looking at the performance of these funds since May we can't see how the market is accounting for this difference. Does T.Rowe Price charge to start investing with different funds, and if so, are we talking $100s of dollars?

    thanks

I doubt that they charge to switch funds.

Are there minimum investment amounts per fund that you aren't meeting? There could be a charge for that.

If you can't find the discrepancy, give them a call. I'm sure they can explain it to you.

        Thanks for your replies.

I'm sure we are meeting the minimum amount required per fund. I didn't think they would charge for shifting investments around. We will call T.Rowe Price.

T Rowe doesn't charge a fee to transfer between funds however some bond (and stock) funds have an early redemption fee of 2% if money is taken out of them within 90 days.

If you got out of the Floating Rate Fund (PRFRX), High Yield Fund (PRHYX), or Tax-Free High Yield Fund (PRFHX) without having the money in there for 90 days you would have gotten charged the fee. If that's not the case I don't know why you would be missing that amount of money.

Just give them a call and see what they say. They have excellent customer service.
