  • Gross Expense Ratio vs Net Asset fee

What is gross expense ratio vs net asset fee? Are they fees that get taken out of your funds' earnings? I can't find a clear definition online.

I'm reading through my wife's quarterly 401k statement and just noticed this and I'm not sure if "NAF" means that she's getting charged another 1.19% on top of the .20% Gross Expense Ratio (GERs) for the SP500 Index fund or if it means that when everything is said and done her management company has charged her 1.19% total for owning that fund?

I'm asking because other funds have lower Net Asset fees.

Because this is a 401k plan, the only way to know for sure is to read the 401k plan documents.

401ks have hidden fees, and plan sponsors are allowed to modify expense ratios of mutual funds inside a 401k to cover plan fees which up until July 1, had not been previously disclosed to participants.

Check with the 401k plan sponsor.
