  • Ing accounts

I'm new to budgeting and was wondering if Ing was a good place to open up a savings account? I don't know much about this company but have seen other people use them. I just don't want to get cought up into a scheme. Also, would it be better to open up a checking or savings account with them?
Which one is going to cost me less and make me more?

My lifestyle has caught up with me and now I'm paying for it. Never to old to start just as long as I start.

As far as online banking, I am partial to Charles Schwab. They have a banking division now.

    The main advantage is:

    1. All ATM machines with PLUS sign are free (they reimburse the charges)
    2. The interest rate is competitive on CD's and savings. It may not be as much as ING, but pretty close enough that it doesn't make a difference to me.

I do all my banking and investing from Schwab at this point. I like having it all in one place. It's not the cheapest place to trade ($13/trade) but I don't trade that much anyway, maybe 1-2x/year at the most.

    Good luck.

I have my emergency savings account with ING. They are a good company and offer a lot of promotions. I opened my account as a referral from a friend who works there and got $25 just for opening the account. I also get offers to start a Sharebuilder account and get $50 bonus.

They have an online interface that is very user-friendly. I'm not sure how they are as far as transaction accounts go; again, I use them simply for my emergency fund. If you're looking to utilize them, I'd say go for it. They are a solid company and stronger than some of the other banks out there.

I have been with ING Direct for many years. I love them because they don't charge any fees (not even overdraft fees) and their customer service is great ... I never have to wait more than a few seconds to talk to someone on the phone!

there are many options when it comes to online accounts. ing direct was one of the first and generally had amongst the highest rates. that said, as rates have gone down across the board, ing's rates are no longer amongst the highest out there.

that said, you have nothing to worry about with regards to safety. ing direct is fully insured by the fdic and generally considered one of the best in terms of ease of use, great website and customer service. i have been with them since 2004 and do not have a complaint.

as for which account will make you the most with ing, the savings account is the way to go unless you will be putting in 50,000 or more, then the checking will give you a slight advantage. here is a link to their products.

lastly, there are no fees or minimums.

just be sure to get a referral from a current account holder or find one online as you can get a bonus for signing up. don't pass up free money.

good luck and let us know if you have any further questions.

I have an account and love it - the set-up process is quite smooth and the site gives great info - tells you when deposits are available for withdrawal, shows you accrued interest during the month, etc. I have ING and HSBC Direct/Advance and I love my ing account!!

I'm a long-time believer in ING. I moved most of my money to ALLY due to the rate difference, but ING has my respect for its customer service and simplicity of use overall. I would not park retirement savings there. Try Fidelity or Schwab for that.

I just recently opened up two accounts with ING and love them. Their sign in process is very simple and there customer service is great.

I have a savings account and checking accont with them. I've linking both accounts to my personal checking account at my local bank and transfer money in an out when needed. usually takes about two days to see the final transfer. It's an instant transfer when transfer between two ING accounts.

You get a debit card with there checking account that you can use at any ATM. Make sure you do use there ATM search as not all ATM's are free. If not free your at the mercy of the surcharge.

When I signed up they are running a promo of if I use my debit card for three signatures purchases I get a $50 bonus.

ING will hold my money for years to come.

I have had an ING account for a number of years and they are a pretty good bank. Lately their interest rates have gotten a little less competitive for an Orange Savings account. I think they are at %1.10 right now. Nevertheless, I think they are a pretty good bank and definitely have great service.
