  • Book on basics of investing / money ext...

I am new to investing and want to learn as much as I can. Can you give me some resources I should read up on? like online books or websites? I don't want to buy a book, because I am deployed and It is annoying trying to get stuff delivered.

Common Sense on Mutual Funds is the only book you should need. You can buy the audio version on itunes for $4.95.

Just my humble opinion, but I am wary of statements that contain, "the only book you should need"

Other people's money books are mostly a glossary of investments terms and descriptions and of little value. Most authors were not self-made millionaires before they wrote their books. Most of the best keep moneymaking secrets remain a secret. I personally traded with very successful floor traders and it was like pulling teeth to get them to part with their best-kept secrets. Consider yourself lucky to walk away with one good idea from a book.

I put all of my best-kept secrets in my book but that does not mean there is not more lurking between the pages of other people’s books.

I would question taking investment advice from either person.

It's written by the guy who created the first index fund. And index funds are really all you need. They beat 90% of actively managed funds over the long run and they are far cheaper to invest in.

Investing is only as complicated as you make it. If you want a portfolio that's easy to manage and one that lets you sleep at night and one that will consistently beat everyone elses portfolio, this book is all you need.

                That's all I'm saying.

Read Benjamin Graham's "The Intelligent Investor" It is a hard read, but really lays out the basics of value investing.

I am wanting more basics. I know what the stock market is and what everything is, but it is very general. I am looking for good articles that will tell me more about small, med, and large caps. What am I looking at on the news when it shows the Dow Jones? More basic 101 stuff.

Well, if you want "basic 101 stuff", Money Magazine has its "Money 101" lessons. They're not extremely complete, but they can at least give you a better idea of things, and maybe spark some questions you might want to ask.

I just update my video on my blog. In it, I talk about managing a 401k plan. I also talk about bonds and using The Predictor as an Exit Strategy. The video runs 4 minutes. There is some useful information in this latest video. I really didn't like my first video because I am not very good in front of a camera.
