  • Edward Jones Surgery Commercial

Have any of you seen the Edward Jones commercial where the doctor is giving directions to a man over the phone on how to operate on himself...then the commercial says, you wouldn't operate on yourself, you shouldn't do the same with your finances. Does that piss anyone off besides me? I think that one of the problems is that people try and make finances and investing harder than it really is for the sole reason to get lots of fees.

Hehe, never seen it before... no TV.

But yeah, the analogy is great, but flawed in my opinion.

I pity da fool who is required to work 24-hour shifts at self-administering her assets after seven years of microeconomics, macroeconomics and portfolio theory.

"I opened a Roth IRA, now I have to intern at Cedars Sinai..." Not Quite.

You can apply that sentence to 9o% of sales. The reason you see the ads is because they work.

Doctors can prescribe drugs without 8 reps/hour in their face; people can hire a closing attorney and with minimal research, sell their own home; and yes, people can make wise choices and place ther money with reputable institutions for no "advising" fees.

        That's sales.

So I guess you'd perform surgery on yourself then eh? Or, when your car breaks down, you won't need a mechanic to fix it because its all smoke and mirrors? Seriously though, there is a place in this world for good financial consultants, mechanics and surgeons.
