  • How do CDs pay?

I have opened a CD a few months ago. Now, when I open the history of the interest payments that have been paid out each month, each monthly payment is less than the first. The third monthly payment is about 10% less than the first interest payment.
Shouldn’t each payment be the same amount or at least be compounding interest?

The CD is just a traditional CD, so it is fixed. The payments do go back into the CD not to a separate account.

I do think that ArmyGrr hit it on the head. I will look into the actual days and not the months. I do think that this is the reason overall. Just strange to look at my statements and have declining interest earnings, with compounding interest. But most likely is simple calculation error on my part. I will double check this.

Thank you very much for your help and concern!

It could be the count of days in months or your CD compounds interest only on the amount that is contributed montly?
