If so, which views do you use? I've recently downloaded all my info from my brokerage, and so far can't seem to pull up any useful performance information. Other than the asset allocation pie chart, Quicken seems to be a bust for me.

Anyone use Quicken to track their mutual funds?

I was wondering how some of you input this information. Do you put down what you originally paid for your funds or did you use the Dec 31st price as the cost? I think that it would be too much trouble to look back at every stock or fund that you have purchased.

You can connect to your brokerage and download your current holdings. My brokerage statement lists the cost basis of each fund (ie the sum of all the purchase I have made less any sales for that fund) on the monthly statement so that's what I used.

I actually just do a portfolio tracker at money.com. I put in all my info for each account and have my IRA, my Roth, etc... I can check it during the day and see what it is doing in realtime. No need to check a lot lately unless I want to get sick.

You put in the mutual fund or stock ticker and the purchase price, number of shares, etc... It will then give you real time tracking througout the day. It also will show your % allocation, etc... It will show how much each stock/fund is up or down and also if the entire portfolio is up/down. I have it set up for my taxable accounts, my IRA, my wifes IRA. So, I just click on each tab and it show me what is going on.

I don't think that my question was understood. I have retirement funds and various mutual fund purchases and do not want to go back 10 to 15 years to find out what I purchased them for. I keep up with that yearly. I was asking whether you could just on December 31st, put in your fund, its ending balance and the shares owned as of Dec 31st.

Zetta - what version of Quicken do you have? I have 2008, and they have changed it a lot since 2007. I'm not sure how much they changed the investing portion of it because although we've kept our checking/savings/budget in Quicken since 2005, I'm just this year trying to get our investments into Quicken. In any case, in Q2008, under the Investing tab, I click Performance. From there it shows me a few different charts that are all customizable to which account(s) I want to view:- Growth of $10,000 - I can choose length of time and compare the chart to S&P 500, NASDAQ, Dow Jones, & Russel 2000.
- Average Annual Return - Shows 1, 3, and 5 year %, and then compares those to the above.
- Portfolio Value vs. Cost Basis
- Investing Activity - Shows Beginning value, and changes in the selected account QTD and YTD. Also shows capital gain/loss.
