I have Emigrant, and I could get my money in an emergency within 1 business day. I am confident I would be fine in the mean time if it was a true emergency... I could borrow from family, use my credit card (and then pay off immediately when the money is transfered over), plus with most emergencies I would be fine anyways with the money in my checking account.

I got rid of the HSBC account because of the float time. Because the rates are falling, I'm not going to leave money in accounts that aren't willing to pay me a decent rate. The first one that bit the dust was ING and I immediately transferred my money to EmigrantDirect. I don't really think that it is worth the time and computer paper to keep too many online accounts that take up a lot of time.
It all depends on the rates. If the rates are going up, it's a different game. If the rates are going down, I get rid of the first one that lowers its rates and transfer the money to the next one with a better rate. In a climate of lower rates, it doesn't make sense to spend alot of time with too many online accounts.

I have a Paypal money market. I think transfers take 2-3 days. There's no reason I would ever need to get to my money faster than that. I've got my checking account with ATM or debit card access. I have a cash emergency fund for instant need and times when electronic networks are unavailable. And I've got credit cards with nearly $100,000 in total available credit. I think I'm covered.Steve
