  • Bank of Internet

After getting charged $5 / ATM visit while on a business trip to Taiwan, I've decided to end my relationship with B of A. I'm looking for a bank with bill pay and no ATM fees. Not too concerned about minimum balance requirements. Interest checking is a plus. Bank of Internet USA looks pretty good. Anyone used this or have other recommendations?

EverBank FreeNet Checking Account has all the features you're looking for. They are currently offering 6.01% introductory APR for the first 3 months. After that the rate will be 3.41% for balances below $10,000 and up to 5.01% for balances over $100,000. Bill Pay is free if you maintain a minimum $1,500 balance; otherwise, the fee is $4.95 a month. They don't charge ATM fees and even reimburse the ATM fees charged by other banks up to $6 a month.

Thanks for the reply. Bank of Internet advertises postage paid envelopes for banking by mail. I can't find anything similar mentioned on the EverBank site. Do you know if they offer this too?

Yes, they do. If you click on the "Depositing money into your account" link on the right (under Additional Information), it says, "When you open your account, you'll receive pre-paid Bank-By-Mail envelopes to use for additional deposits." Here is the direct link to that page.

Thanks again. Curious to know what you think about Schwab Bank Investor Checking. Looks like a better APY (4.25%).

I was going to make the same switch to Everbank but their limits on transaction amounts is too low.

Are you talking about the ACH limits? I'd like to know what they are. Thanks.

Can you expand on this please?

                  Just to note --

Both EverBank and Bank of Internet have minimum balance requirements to avoid fees but EverBank's minimum is $1500 with a $7.95 fee otherwise.

If you're not worried about that minimum then its no concern either way.

I still find it difficult to beat UnivestDirect. No fees, 4.00% APY, etc.

The Schwab account is good. E*TRADE also offers an interest checking and, of course, so does ING. Just FYI.
