I just received the citi dividend mastercard.

They have 2% for groceries, drugstore, gas and 1% for anything else.

I thought I had a differnet offer when i signed up, maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to go check the website.

I went back yesterday to reapply to that credit card since I think I canceled it a few years ago. I'll see what the rate is if I get accepted.

Yes, I went and looked at the website and that's what I have too. I'm happy with it, but for a while there I was switching credit cards for the best offers.

Not many places in Australia take Amex now. When we were reassessing our finances we looked into cc and reward programs. Amex was by far the best but when we asked at the shops we frequent none of them accepted it. Not exactly sure why. Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted.
We have a visa which is linked to loyalty program. We put all spending on the cc and then pay it off it in full each month. Meanwhile the money is sitting on our home loan reducing our interest by tens of $1000s of dollars.

                    Re: reward credit cards

There are really two kinds of reward credit card. Those that credit you monthly and those that give you cashback upon your request once you reach that level. I like automatic crediting. Better having your money earn 5% at your savings account than letting your CC company holding on to it until it accumulates.

I'm using the Chase Perfect Card:
                    * 3% Cashback (credit) at any gas station
                    * 1% Cashback (credit) at any retailer
                    * Automatic credit at the end of the month (no waiting at $20 increments and/or calling it in)
                    * Maximum rebate accumulation on your Account for 3% rebate Net Purchases is $15 monthly, which is $500 of Net Purchases that earn a 3% rebate. 1% rebate Net Purchases are excluded from the cap and earn unlimited rebates.

I also like the Citi Shell Mastercard.
                    * 5% Cashback (credit) at Shell gas stations
                    * 1% at any retailer
                    * Credit only applied on the Shell gas portion of the bill
                    * Automatic credit at the end of the month (no waiting at $20 increments and/or calling it in)

Here's the Discover Gas Card restrictions:

Earn a full 5% Cashback Bonus on your first $1,200 in annual gas and auto maintenance purchases. In addition, earn a full 1% on all other purchases after your total annual purchases (including gas and auto maintenance) exceed $3,000; other purchases that are part of your first $1,500 earn .25% and other purchases that are part of your second $1,500 earn .50%. Combined gas and auto maintenance purchases in excess of $1,200 earn Cashback Bonus at the same rate as other purchases.

It's a good deal if you spend a fair amount on gas and auto repairs. I guess you need to consider how good value their auto repairs are? e.g. are they cheaper than alternative garages or could you get your car services somewhere else cheaper without the discount. BP do a similar deal in Australia where you can save 5% of fuel and servicing - with current fuel prices it all helps.
