    Re: This month's budget buster

Haha... well, Graduate School is a HUGE budget buster, althought it was very much planned, but it's leading me to the job I want, and is worth the "investment" because it will mean a huge pay increase from previous jobs I've had.

Going to grad school means I'm making a wimpy $8.50/hr as a grad assistant right now, but they are paying for 6 credits of tuition in the fall and spring (valued at $3150/semester). It means I still need to take out Stafford loans... both for the remaining 6 credit hours and a little extra for living expenses.

Both of these were self-inflicted, but we decided to take my mom on a last-minute trip to Las Vegas to see LOVE for her birthday (GREAT show, by the way!) and decided to go ahead with our granite countertops. It's not a crisis or anything, just a lot going out an once!

Plus, the "suspicious spot" is back on my little girl cat. I'm going to watch it for a little while, but I think it's back to the vet for the long threatend biopsy!

Our dryer died and needed to be replaced 2 weeks ago. And yesterday we took our daughter for a medical eval that wasn't covered by insurance. So about $450 for the dryer and $350 for the medical testing. Oh, and we leave for vacation tomorrow. So all around, an expensive month.

              * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

Ours next month will be a trip to Gatlinburg to go to a car show. I am saving my charge money in advance to pay for room and meals out!

Our 1985 vehicle did not pass the smog test, so we can't register it. We were told the repair costs would be way more than the vehicle's worth. The state will give us some money to "retire" it, but I don't think it will be enough to get a decent replacement.

Hot weather helps the weeds grow and on that note, the vines we have on our house are all out of shape and have to be trimmed. There is a weird looking weed/tree growing on our garage roof that will have to be removed. Our yardman will take care of this for just the cost of removing it and no labor charge as come the latter part of October, he will be removing the leaves and cleaning the gutters in November. Then the snow......fun! fun! fun! NOT.....

Minor truck repairs plus a new battery totaling $200 are my sore spot this month. I can't complain, really, in that my truck is a Nissan and requires only simple maintenance. It's been a stellar vehicle
