I have to say that the challenge has made me think about the items I actually use in my house, and how to use what I have. Like friday night I ran out of paper towels. Since I am in the challenge I did not buy them over the weekend. I just pulled out a few more dishtowels and a rag to deal with the things I woud normaly use the paper towels for. It also has made me think about how much food I actualy buy each week. I could go for at least a month on the food I have in my house right now...that means I am buying too much food every week, for just one person. Now that I see that I can cut back a little.

I have to agree with this...If I don't spend it this week it is saved beacuse what I spend next week comes out of next weeks money.

I did spend some yesterday, $1.00 for some chocolate. Since I am on a diet (80lbs to lose in a yr) I don't keep any on hand, I have to buy it and eat it at the same time. So my total so far $72.80.

I will be taking a portion of the money I save from small stuff (ie not getting snacks or tea) and adding that to my EF when the challange is done. Those things, I had the money in my walet to spend and when I didn't I took it out and put it in the bank as challenge winnings.

Ima, I bake my bacon on my 2 level broiler pan in the oven, that way the fat drains off into the pan below the grates. When I make it that is...I make bacon very rairly. I have been doing ok with no paper towels, I mainly use them for cat throwup and cleaning up messes. So far no cat mess yet that I have had to wory about and the other messes can be cleaned up with a rag or towel.

and my guess is Bookie is a man...based on some things he has said! Oh and Bookie a cool weblog for men learing to cook is.....http://menscookeryclub.com/ it doesn't look like cheap food...but they are having fun!

Hey, what's this talking about me behind my back! Let's have a little respect for my gray hairs.

To clear the air, allow me to depose the following:

I am a practicing male, gracefully aging into my sixties.

I live in East Tennessee. Ima Saver and I are actually closer than I would want her to suspect.

I am happily divorced from a wonderful woman who belatedly realized that she was much to good for me and promptly rectified the situation.

I am a retired academic administrator currently working part-time handliing the books of a small social services corporation. (We have a board officer who considers himself very clever when he refers to me as "the company bookie," and that is the source of my forum name.)

I do use paper towels, Ima. I just don't use all that many of them. Draining bacon is not a problem because I seldom cook it except as part of another dish.

                  Any other biographical details, ladies?

A guy?! I struck out again.

My last several guesses were guys, but turned out to be female.

So, this time, I decided to guess female, but I was wrong. Again.

Oh yeah, and my day 3 report.

I didn't want to eat pasta again, but I was prepared this time with hot dogs, so I'm still holding....

I think some of you already know that I plan to get my car checked out and renew my tags. I hope you guys don't count that because that's the only day I can get it done anytime soon. Otherwise, I should be able to hold out well into the weekend.

                        Aha I was right!!! LOl

Anyhoo, so my day 7 was really nothing, no spending! I am down to 1 lowly orange left in the fruit bowl and I'm almost out of milk, so I'm going to have to take my $5 left of grocery money and buy some fruit.

I use brown paper grocery sacks for this.

We are due for a grocery run; after the normal stock up, maybe I'll dive in. My exception would be: I would still garage sale, because a 50 cent gift bought today may prevent a $10 expense at Christmas (birthdays....).

Day five for me and no money spent! The boys and I hung out at the pool all afternoon in this rediculous heat! We packed dinner and DH met us there. DH burned his feet at the pool. It's his own fault though! The man didn't think shoes were necessary to walk across the asphalt????! Not sure what he was thinking, but I feel bad for him. He has blisters on his feet. It's funny, though, that the boys asked me if they could go barefoot prior to this incident and I replied "Absolutely not. You will burn your feet." Thanks, Dad, for illustrating my point so well!

Going to back to the "Why bother doing this when we're just going to spend the same money week" thing. First I said that I could see why some would say that. Now I'm changing my mind. It is true that whatever I buy next week comes out of next week's money, so I am saving quite a bit and that makes me feel good! It's just like what we do with our amusment park passes. Rather than get them every year, we get them every other year purchasing them at the end of the season. That way, passes purchased for the 2007 season can be used for the end of 2006 and all of 2007. It stretches out the life of the pass.

Day 6 passed with no want spending. It was a close call though. End of financial year sales are on and I even got as far as trying 3 items on but then I thought to myself do I need this item or do I want it. I ended up putting all 3 items back. *Pats self on the back*
My balance is now $6 but will go back to $0 today as I am going out for my monthly lunch date with the girls.
