    Re: New Car Suggestions

You dont need to save money on a car, yet youre posting in a savings advice blog.

I think youll be better off in a related forum. Like, a CAR one? lol

      Re: New Car Suggestions

I don't think "Evad" is a 22 year old soccer mom. I think Evad is probably Dave backwards, therefore a male.

I love my new 2006 Ford Focus ZX4, but even if I had more money down the road I'd buy a Saab 9-3 or a Volvo S40 or V50. I did buy my car on my own. And did just start up with my grad school program so it wouldn't have been practical for me to spend $60,000 on a car (and probably won't ever be... I want to buy a house some day). No point in buying something performance based where I live because traffic sucks...No opportunity to use what a turbo Porsche SUV is capable of.

Regarding BMW's... I don't like their new styling with the hoods that swell out (like the Z4). I like the appearance of BMWs from a couple years ago better.

I think it has to do alot with your perspective. I agree with Jeffrey. Remember to thank your parents. Keep in mind the lifestyle YOU will be able to support. Please, Please, Please don't drive around like a pompas jerk just because your parents have money. Good Luck.

                That is a sweet ride.

But 130k? That is about what I plan to pay for my first house! May I ask what do your parents do?

I wish I had parents like that. Man, the serious investments I would like to make with a venture capital partner like them.

i picked the porsche too... i personally think you should be very careful to have an auto fund at all times, for insurance, upkeep, etc... i don't know what the resale value is on this vehicle.. but, that is a concern... take extra good care of it...
i bought my first car... my parents did not want me to own a 4 speed car... i went on to be a race car driver for a while... so, it was good for me to do my own car buying... they helped buy or bought all of the siblings vehicles.. my dad liked it best, because i did my own thing... i bought my son a twin turbo steath, he worships it... he paid for a regular stealth, 1994 himself, i think he paid $28,000 at the time.. he still owns that one too... i bought his first car from him a 1994 tempo gl, i use it as a golf cart with air on ki... lol.. it has under 70,000 miles on it... it was a gift to my son from his godfather, he never liked it.. his godfather also bought my son a new 1999 topaz i think the year maybe wrong.. he traded it in on his stealth.. never liked the topaz he said...

Holy crap. I felt so lucky when my parents bought my first car...an '86 Ford Taurus. After it was destroyed in a tornado, I again felt incredibly lucky when they bought my second car...a '94 Ford Tempo. Which I still drive.

Incredible. Enjoy your new car, Evad!

                            Re: New Car Suggestions

When I got my license in Dec 1999 I was allowed to drive a 1986 Chevy Caprice Estate Station wagon, light blue with wood trim.

The transmission died around when I graduated from HS in June of 2001.
                            So I bought a 1989 Ford Tempo with 78k miles for $1500.

Then my sister got her license in October 2002. So my parents bought the Tempo off of me for something like $1200, to give to my sister, and I bought a 1995 Ford Contour with 33k miles for $4k.

In May of 2005 someone drove into my car while it was parked on the street, destroying it. I think insurance gave me $2700.

I drove a rental car for 10 days, then my boyfriend's parents lent me their mini van until we moved in July 2005, so I didn't have to rush to buy a crap car.

My boyfriend and I shared his car from July til the end of October of 2005, when I bought a 2006 Ford Focus for $16k something after incentives.

I have bought all my cars and had to work to earn money for all my cars (except the wagon) which I think has allowed me to appreciate having them more than if my parents gave them to me.

                              Re: New Car Suggestions

I knew I wanted to have a car when I was just 12. So I got a job and saved my money for four years. I had to pay cash for the car, and the insurance. When something went wrong with it, I had to pay to get it fixed. All I made was $3 a day (33 cents an hour) so it took some time to save the money! My mother never helped me, she couldn't.[Automated by GetSmile]
