  • Middle East threats

gas prices soaring, middle east countries in turmoil again and threatening to break out into regional war and more military posturing, oil approaching 78 a barrel and threatening to go much higher.

How are you guys continuing to prepare for this issue? any one worried?

I got gas today and as i was pumping they were changing the prices.

Off topic, I apologize, but when I clicked on this thread I read" Middle East Treats." It was a sad moment when I found no treats, only threats.

I am a mile from work and I get decent mileage. What may change for me is that if/when I look for a house to buy, I will pay much more attention to the commute. I don't want to compromise any possible savings from cheaper houses in nearby towns by spending a lot more on gas and vehicle wear and tear.

Not really doing a thing. I'm almost glad I don't have a car because it's one less thing to complain about...truthfully though I wouldn't feel bad if gas prices went up because there are so many cars in this city and half of them are terrible drivers. I've been nearly hit multiples times and maybe higher gas prices would get people to stay home more

Otherwise I haven't really been conserving electricity, but I am going to try to get into the habit again....I've gotten some big paychecks lately and gotten lazy.

I got a chuckle out of that. Thanks!

I just stocked up on a bunch of drinking water and dry goods, and withdrew some extra cash for in the house.

But as far as my investments go, I've been ramping up my stock buying. These are the times that long-term investors dream about.

I wish I was flush w/ cash right now so I could purchase some stock. Being that we're moving in two weeks, I'm focusing on building a bit of a cushier EF.

I did exactly this nearly 6 years ago when I bought my house. Friends and family said why do you want to buy this dump for. You can afford to buy a new house out in one of those new estates. Yes it would be nice to live in a new house but when you consider that there are no community facilities I would have to drive myself and my children everywhere.
I'll admit our house isn't the prettiest but it has a lot of potential. Within walking distance ( say 20 mins) is a primary school, a high school, a train station, a major busroute, a community sporting ground with play equipment, every shop you good possible need except for furniture and white goods, swimming pool, bowling alley and the list goes on and on. I drive my kids to school as they are too little to go buy them selves. When they get to high school age they will walk. I can see the high school from my front porch so safetly is less of an issue.
