  • Water bill

A month ago or longer, I received notice from my water company that they will be installing water meters in a few months (didn't say exactly when) where I live. Now we are paying flat fee doesn't matter how much you use.

So, I was wandering how much would I have to pay for the water. How much do you guys pay, and how your company charges you. Is there a minimum you have to pay even if you would use almost no water? How much does a gallon of water cost?

I am just curious, because I have no idea about all this.

I am not on a flat-rate. I pay right around $25 a month here. This will vary greatly depending on where you live in the country and, in many instances, whether you live within or outside of the city limits of your metro area.

I get a water/sewer bill quarterly. My last bill was for $117.27 for a total of 13,000 gallons used for a 3 month period. I have been very careful and got the total usage down from 21,000 gallons for a 3 month period. I wish I could get it lower! $39 a month for water is sometimes higher than my electric bill!

You pay for the water whether you use any or not. We have two houses going, on one the rate is $14 a month, on our personal house, it was just raised to $20 a month. On a house we just finished it was $30 a month. (three different water companies) We very seldom pay higher than that unless we have to water the lawn a lot.

So, 1000 gallons costs about $9, and a gallon costs like 1c, so 15-min shower would cost about 40c + the water heating cost.

Yea, water is expencive. With those prices, just to take shower for 5 people 3 times a week, 4 weeks would cost $24 alone, but if you cut the shower to 10 min, it will be about $16. Plus, of cource, there is lawn and toilet, laundry, and water to wash hands, dishes, and other things. I might end up paying more than I am paying now. Now I pay $54 for every 2 months.

We pay around $25 a month, but that includes water, sewer and recycling. It goes down a little bit in the winter because we aren't watering flowers and lawn. We live in the city.

We have our own sewer and we don't ever use more than the minimum. Of course, there are just 2 of us. You will never believe how much water you waste with a leaky faucet or a toilet that runs.

$4.85 per 1000 gallons for water
$6.85 per 1000 gallons for sewer

This is read off of our water meter every month and then billed to us. Ugh.

We are on a well and sewer. However, our well water has too much Boron, so we have to buy drinking water---which we spend about $4 a week on.

we purchase drinking water from savealot or wag for a dollar a gallon, for drinking...we use the city water from the faucet that runs thru 2 filtertation systems for cooking, and washing dishes, water line to ice maker, etc...
we own 3 properties so our water and sewage bills are higher than most ppls..

                          Re: Water bill

Water is ridiculusly cheap and what you actually pay for water in greatly subsidized by your taxes. If people on city and county water systems had to pay for what it actually cost to get the water to the taps then maybe it would be easier to get folks to conserve.

Not that paying the water bill is fun, but lets not get confused and start talking about how "expensive" water is...
