O.K. guys now it's my turn.
Does anyone know of a good pain killer for Sciatica. This is the largest nerve in the body. When it gets pinched the whole body feels it.
Sciatica pain in this nerve is going over the butt cheeck and radiating all the way down her leg. She fell in her doorway taking her dog out. Said she is n't going to emergency. When her husband went, they just gave him some relaxers that didn't work that good, and exercies. In the hospital they gave him a needle, and he almost took the roof off, and she passed out on the floor. Got her packed in ice now.

My doc tips give exercises, but no pain killers.

    Hi,
I've been taking Oxycodone for years for mine. I only need it 3-5 times per week so I'm no addict. I take the oxycodone with acetaminaphin. Usually the 5mg or 7.5 mg pills do it for me. I have a friend with the same problem who takes Hydrocodone with acetaminephin as this works better for her. Hope this helps.

yobry, if you're using oxycodone 3-5 times per week for your "sciatica" you're an addict and denying it is pointless.

        Hey pyotr,
Just because YOU can't take pain pills (as you sound like a reformed addict) doesn't mean the rest of us are. There are times when I can't afford to get my scripts filled, so the months I can't afford it, my Best friend buy's me Walmart (tylenol) to use, and I need to take 4 of them every 4-6 hours 2-5, mostly 3-5 times per week. Then my Dr. gets very angry as I am Damaging my liver from taking too much tylenol. My Dr. nor my Shrink think I am an addict as I have never taken more than 2 per day for more than 10 days at a time. ( these are the times I have every 2-4 months when I am in so much pain I have to take them) I just Thank God it's only once every 2-4 months. Buy the way, my sciatica is from being shot in the Back and Chest with a 44 Magnum with hollow point Bullets, that explode on impact. So I lost a kidney, lung, half of my intestines and damage to other organs. My Doctor told me had I lost another 3 inches of my colon ,Iwould have had a colostomy the rest of my life (I had that horrible thing for 9 months). I am also the only person in the state of Florida to survive these bullets. My aunt and family friend were both killed. This happened 2 days before Christmas and 1 day before my Birthday as we were all innocent Victims of a Violent Crime (burglery). I know people who take 2-3 prescription pain pills EVERY DAY and thier pills are stonger than mine. These people are addicts. I am affraid to get addicted to pain pills as I have seen what people go thru when they are out, thats why I Limit my intake of them till I absolutely need them. Besides the fact that I get constipated if I take them too long or too often, so that just causes even more pain for me from all the damage to my insides. DO NOT EVER accuse ANYONE of being an addict till you get the Whole Story!!!

i heard weights around your waist and traction helps.. also, do the cat scratch exercise.. you know on the floor, on all fours, lift up your neck high, then deep under your chest and hold.. do ten a day, in the morning, then end with your arms stretched out, chest relaxing on your legs for a few minutes.. it works wonders i have been told...hth.

                  Re: Sciatica

I think an evaluation by a doctor would be the first step. Some of these things just take TIME to heal but you need to get on the right path. Self-medicating is not necessarily the way to go. If no relief with convential methods, then it may be time to seek out a back speciailist.

so far as I can tell physical therapy is sloooooow. and hard to see results...so it is hrd to keep up with.....but seek it out, try it, keep up with it. if nothing else you will hve the rest of us beat on flexibility/strength in the targeted areas!

as for immediate relief..try alternating hot and cold, supposed to work better than just one or the other..

Thanks team for all your support.

She is doing better. We got her crutches, and a walker to get around. She has been alternating the past few days with the ice and heat. At first after 14 hrs of ice, her system still would not accept the heat. But now it seems to be. She walks a little humped over, but at least she is walking. She is progressing more each day. She wants to know if it will ever clear up? You guys are a wonderful group. Glad I joined.

                          Re: Sciatica

Hi Brian. You probably need a prescription for these don't you? I was walking my poms, and ran into a guy that had it for six weeks. Then it started to clear up. He thought it never would. Do you know what triggers these? Also Bill said he was given a prescription for lididerm patches. As soon as he taped one on, there was almost immediate relief. He told me to come up to the house - and he'd give me a couple for her, that he had left over. These suckers are expensive. But they helped my friend to. So she's going to ask her doc for some. She was also taking muscle relaxers that were knocking her out cold for a few hours. She does not like to be bed ridden, she wants to be up. Others tell me as soon as she is able to get around again, to get her into the pool. That will also help.

She wasn't able to make it to the fireworks this year. But I'm vice president of our club of 64 people. So I bought the fire works over this way. Her bedroom window faces the street, so it worked out great.

So thanks agian everybody, you're wonderful. LOL.
