Re: Are you frugal, or stingy?

Based on the article definitions, I'm frugal. Sweet.

I am frugal. I do force frugality on DH and the kids, does that count?

My husband says I am cheap, but I really don't think I am.

Re: Are you frugal, or stingy?

Based on the article, I am usually frugal.

Stingy to me means: Hording for oneself at an unreasonable cost to others.

Every once in a while the stinginess comes out in me....example: I dont usually tip barista's on the rare occaision that I stop for a smoothie for my daughter...

But for the most part I feel I balance saving money and fairness to others pretty well.

Yap. People accuse me of being stingy all the time because I am unwilling to share my 2-bedroom apartment for free because someone cannot afford rent.

            Then they go shopping everyday.....GRRRR......

Re: Are you frugal, or stingy?

I don't really like to share with others, so I guess, I am stingy. But I don't like to share mostly because they spend money on the stuff that if I would buy all that stuff, I would be completly broke. And then they want me to share because I have more money. Yea, I have more because I spent less.

And I am not going to deprive my kids, so I could donate something or to impress others. Sometimes I buy toys for my kids, and I know they are going to break them, but at least they enjoy doing that. I would rather do that or pay extra towards my mortgage debt.

And whenever I donate something I make sure I don't need it and can't sell it and can write it off of my taxes. We do give money to church, well they have expences for the building and stuff like that, so I feel if I go there and spend time there, I don't mind donating.

Sometimes I feel like I am really stingy, but I always give and share with my family, and some friends. If my sister will ask me for $100, or even $1000, I will give it to her without even expecting her to pay me back, even if I would rebudget and make more cuts in my budget, but if some stranger will ask me to donate or loan the money, no way, not going to happen!

Most of the time I am overly-frugal: I go to the cheapest supermarket and buy their 'home-brand' items, I bake my own bread and only buy second-hand clothes. However, because I then have money left over I like to go out to a restaurant once or twice a week. I don't really save money , and whatever I do save is for travel. Sometimes if I think I have too much money in my bank account I buy presents for my friends because I feel bad about it just sitting there. I constantly give money to my friends who need it, even if they don't ask for it, because one day perhaps I won't be so well off and may need their assistance.
